future technician - snap-on tools... opinions?
I'm going to become a future technician. I was thinking about getting all Snap-on tools, but after seeing it it's too expensive it decide to go for Craftsman...
Do you think Craftsman tools are just as top quality as Snap-on?
Should I just buy tools Snap-on are famous for (scanner, torque wrench...) and Craftsman for the basic tools (sockets, wrenches, etc...)?
How hard is it to reach a representative if a snap-on tool needs a replacement?
and FINALLY what do you think I should do to build up my tool set, or how did you do it?
it would be very difficult to start out with only snap-on tools because of the investment required to purchase the amount of tools you would need to be a mechanic...that being said, you will have to purchase some of your more specialty tools from other manufacturers because craftsman doesn't make them. Consider Matco, Mac, sk, etc. some of them even have the handy little tool truck vendors that will come out to your shop to fix or replace your tools when they break. Snap on also makes a cheaper product line called Blue point. I do recommend snap on scanners they are probably the best made. Its easy to get ahold of your snap on dealer sometimes you get same day service sometimes you get next week service it just depends. You might have to get a loan to finance your beginning tools. I was told when I was getting started that I would need to have atleast 5 to 10 thousand dollars worth of tools just to start.
