What type of saw should I use for installing laminate flooring?
I'm installing 600 sq feet of snap-in, glue-less laminate flooring this weekend. The stuff is only like a 1/4" thick. I wanna use a hacksaw so I can work late into the night (so I don't disturb the neighbors in the condo). Is a hacksaw ok? Or shouuld I use a circular or jig saw? The stuff is so thin that I'm thinking why even waste time busting out the bad boy, and just working with Rusty (my baby hacksaw that I've nursed since my childhood).
Any other tips on my installation would be super. Thanks.
I put in 300 square foot and it dulled a carbide tipped miter saw. The top layer is pretty hard stuff. I suspect you will be spending a lot of time with your hacksaw trying to cut this stuff but it it certainly better than a jig saw.
You don't need really super smooth cuts since the cut ends will all be under your base mold so a miter box isn't imperative. A small circular saw with a carbide blade will do the job.
I bought a kit from Home Depot that had a video on making the installation along with the two special tools that really helped go get the joints together. There were also a bunch of plastic spacers to help keep the spacing at the edges.
