battery combination for 18 volt flashlight bulb?

Maximum voltage input for an 18 volt flashlight lamp?
I am attempting to build a homemade flashlight. I have purchased a few Dewalt brand, xenon 18 volt, 10.5 watt flashlight bulbs.

My question is, "What combination of batteries, such as two 9-volt batteries, twenty-four 1.5-volt batteries, three 6-volt etc. would be the best for getting the brightest possible light beam out of these bulbs?"

I suppose this would require getting the correct combination of watts, volts & amps, but I'm hoping someone out there can give the the number & type of batteries that would be best for powering these bulbs.

I have tried using two 9-volt alkaline batteries, but this did not produce a very bright beam.

Please help!

For all practical purposes, the larger the battery pack, I am talking weight to make this simple, the longer the burn time on the lamp.
Example 12 AAA batteries have less amp hour capacity than 12 D batteries .
Both will provide 18 volts.
Oh goody, here comes the pun.
The AAA pack weighs less than the D pack.
The D pack will last longer than the AAA pack.
So, how much weight do you want to pack.

The proper voltage, regardless of how you achieve it from any combination of batteries will give the maximum brightness.

The 18 volt Dewalt zenon bulb at 10.5 watts will draw 0.583 amps.
I am not sure what the amp hour capacity of a D cell is, but I do not thank it can put out 0.583 amps for very long.
The three 6 volt lantern batteries would be a better choice.
How about the Dewalt 18 volt rechargeable battery the lamps were made to run on?

The Wikipedia listing has a chart that shows amphour capacities for manny common bateries.

The AAA battery can put out 0.625 amps for about one hour.
that would run your 0.583 amp lamp for just a little over one hour.
The D cell can putput 20.5 amps for one hour.
Doing the math, 20.5 devided by0.583 gives you about 35 hours of battery life.
The 9 volt battery is not listed on the chart.

12 AAA batteries = 1 hour.
12 D batteries === 35 hours

There is a lanten battery at the bottom of the chart than can output 52 amps for one hour.
3 of those lantern batteries would give you about 89 hours.

I hope that I got the math correct.
I would still suggest the rechargable Dewalt 18 volt battery as your best bet.
