Gas chainsaws cannot be used indoors, whereas, electric chainsaws can be worked with safely indoors, and electric models vibrate less than gas models. It should be observed, however, that an electric chainsaw should not be used in wet weather or more than 150 feet from an outlet and, only 100 feet for most models.
There are downsides to electric chainsaws. You always need to be very careful with the power cord and ensure that it does not get tangled up. They are inadequate when a lot of power is required, since they do tend to be less powerful than a gas chainsaw although they do not produce any emissions which may be a consideration for those watching their carbon footprint. Electric saws work well for cutting smaller tree limbs and logs and are lightweight, but your movement and range is limited by an electric cord. For the serious firewood cutter, a gas chainsaw is the best choice for both power and portability.
