do i need standard and metric tools?
im taking 2&4 stroke engines at school and the the teacher said i need to buy a 1/4 socket set, and i was on the snap-on truck today and i told him what i needed and there were smaller sets that were 80$ but either metric or standard then he showed me another set that had both standard and metric for 140$ so do i need both or is he just trying to make another 60$ of me and the class mainly does small lawn mower engines

Most good 2 stroke motors are made by Stihl, Husqvarna and Echo. Stihl came from Germany Husqvarna, Sweden and Echo engines are made in Japan and assembled in America. They're all metric. 75% of four stroke lawn mower engines come from off-shore also.
For 1/4" drive tools why line the pockets of the Snap-on boys. Tool for tool S&K is stronger and less expensive. Sears tools would be a good second choice. S&K combination wrenches are a ton better than Snap-on. I still have two origional sets of 1/4, 1/2" and 3/4 drive S&K ratchets, shallow and deep-well sockets which I bought 40 years ago. No breakage with any of them. Use the right tool for the right job and your tools last forever.
