Upper-level decks often have a space underneath that could be so useful for storage or an additional living area if it weren't for the water dripping through the deck above. But without a lot of expense or effort it is possible to create a dry area underneath your deck. Let's consider the options.

You've probably heard of under deck ceiling systems. These systems are available from various manufacturers and they generally involve fixing sheets or panels to the underside of the deck. All these systems all offer a variation on the same theme. Let's look at some of the options.

From a DIY point of view, probably the simplest system for an under deck ceiling would be the solid vinyl systems such as those offered by Underdeck and DrySnap. These systems generally consist of interlocking solid panels or curved vinyl sheets with an associated system of guttering

Other systems use a rubber membrane shaped in the form of a trough such as DekDrain. RainEscape offer a similar system using flexible vinyl sheeting. Again these are claimed to be quite easy to install by an average handyperson.

With most of the above systems, the underside of your deck will have the appearance of a series of troughs fitted between the deck bearers, and some guttering system to carry water away to the side of your deck. If you would rather have flat underside like conventional ceiling, then you would need to investigate other systems such as Decks Under Cover and Undercover Systems Inc. These companies offer aluminum and galvanized steel products respectively. The downside is that they tend to be more expensive as they generally need to be installed by their own contractors. The Undercover Systems warrants a special mention since it is possibly the only system which is not directly attached to the deck joists.

But instead of constructing a ceiling or a series of troughs underneath your deck, your other option is to cover the top of your deck with a waterproof material. The most common method is to install either a vinyl surface or aluminum surface, but the major disadvantage is that if you have a classic hardwood wood deck you may not wish to hide it with vinyl or aluminum.

Yet another alternative, and perhaps the simplest and most cost-effective way of creating a waterproof area underneath an existing deck is to use snap together outdoor tiles. These tiles simply lock in place over an existing hard surface. Although the tiles themselves are not waterproof, the solution is that you firstly lay down and EPDM sheet over the top of your existing deck.

Then all you have to do is snap these modular tiles in place over the EPDM sheet. So there's no nails, no screws, or adhesives involved and you won't need to employ any contractors. You'll probably only need to cut some tiles on the last row where the tiles but against the outside wall.

Another of the advantages of using deck tiles to create a dry deck area under an elevated deck is that if you wish to change the surface from wood to another surface material, a few manufacturers also offer you the choice of tiles in slate, granite, porcelain and composite wood. You may also be able to mix several of these materials. For example you could create a centre piece in slate tiles surrounded by wood tiles. And if you are a tired of the additional maintenance of wood deck, then you have the option of using low maintenance composite wood as well.

With any of the above systems, you can be sure of one thing. You'll have a great, new, dry space under your deck which you can use for a variety of uses, storage, dining, or simply a leisure/play area.

Gas appliances and flues can sometimes be dangerous to have in a home, but a large number of UK residents do not know this. A high risk of carbon monoxide poisoning is possible if a gas appliance or flue is improperly installed or not ventilated as required.

Carbon monoxide (CO), a poisonous gas, is difficult to detect because it has no taste, smell, or colour. Effects of breathing in carbon monoxide include drowsiness, stomach and chest pains, and vomiting, and in some instances, CO poisoning is fatal. It is critical to act quickly if you suspect you or a family member has carbon monoxide poisoning because CO leaves the body rapidly, and test results will be inaccurate as soon as four hours after exposure to this poisonous gas.

Researchers at the University of London, under the direction of the HSE (Health and Safety Executive), revealed some startling statistics from a residential carbon monoxide study. One or more gas appliances were found to be defective in nearly 25% of homes in the study, and high risk of carbon monoxide poisoning was present in 8% of these homes. Nearly 50% of the residents in the study did not have adequate information about the health risks of carbon monoxide. Everyone living in a residence is at risk for a variety of ailments, paralysis, and death if basic gas safety rules are not followed. The lack of gas safety education is obvious; more than 60% of carbon monoxide-related deaths are the result of an improper response or the total lack of response to a gas appliance malfunction.

For gas appliance installations, repairs, safety checks, and maintenance, do not allow anyone except a CORGI-registered technician to perform the work. Only CORGI-registered service workers have the expertise and skills to safely and expertly complete a gas appliance job. Do not be tempted to hire any service technician for the recommended annual service checks for your gas appliances. Look for a CORGI-registered technician for this job, and use a qualified chimney sweep to give your flue a thorough cleaning every year.

In order for gas to burn safely, gas appliances and flues need to be in well ventilated areas. There needs to be a constant flow of fresh circulating through the area to ensure proper appliance operation. Do not place objects on top of or next to appliances, and make sure that all vents are kept unobstructed. Most carbon monoxide poisoning incidents in homes are the result of insufficient ventilation.

If you suspect your gas appliance is not operating correctly, turn it off immediately. Open any windows and doors in the area to allow fresh air to come into the room. Turn off the main gas supply line if possible. Signs of gas appliances that are not working properly include soot and stains around the appliances, pilot lights that will not remain lit, and a yellow-orange flame. For any questions, ring the National Grid on the Gas Emergency (0800 111 999) or HSEs Gas Safety Advice Line (0800 300 363).

Installing bamboo flooring is a relatively easy process, requiring only minimal skills. People with the right experience may even be able to install this great natural flooring material on their own.

Installing bamboo flooring is a relatively easy process, requiring only minimal skills. People with the right experience may even be able to install this great natural flooring material on their own.

However, most people will prefer to use the kind of quality installation services that a reliable retailer can provide. Even with flooring installed by professionals, however, you'll want to know a little bit about the process - here's some information.

There are a number of different ways to install premium bamboo flooring. Which one works for you will depend on what kind of floor you choose and the site conditions you'll be installing under.

Bamboo boards can be fixed directly to plywood or battons, glued right to the subfloor, and floated. That means that a bamboo floor can be installed for almost any situation.

Look for a company that provides high installation standards, using professionals who aren't just experienced in installing floors in general, but have installed bamboo in specific. Some providers of bamboo floors even have their own full time installation teams - that guarantees a good quality, fast installation.

The length of time it'll take for a given bamboo floor installation varies depending on the size of the room or rooms you're having re-floored, and the layout. However, bamboo installations are a lot faster than timber - they take about a third of the time.

Some homes take only a day to be entirely re-floored in bamboo. Others may need a week, or even more if the flooring that's being installed hasn't come prefinished.

The great thing about bamboo over many other materials is that there are no hazards while it's being installed. You won't have to move out, there's no dust, and the glue used during installation is non-toxic and providers minimum odor.

If you do decide to use bamboo flooring that hasn't been prefinished, you may find that there is some dust. That's because the sanding and polishing process is a little more like installing timber.

Unlike timber, however, bamboo flooring can be installed over many different types of existing floor, including hardwood and tile. Be sure your existing floors are well attached to subfloors, however, since they aren't usually covered by your manufacturer's installation warranty.

Installing bamboo over underfloor heating systems isn't a worry, either. Just pay attention to the height of the finished floor.

Customer installation is possible, as long as you know what you're doing. If you think you have the level of skill required, you can get your flooring supplier to give you a self installation guide - if you run into trouble, you can still consult with their installers in most cases.

Choose only high quality flooring, made from bamboo that has been densely compressed. This flooring is easier to install and much more durable, giving you more years of beautiful floors.

While there are some very inexpensive bamboo floors on the market, it's better to avoid them in favor of a floor that's been made to high standards. You'll be glad you did when your bamboo flooring installation goes without a hitch and your floor lasts longer.

Closet organizer systems can help even the most disorganized individuals find what they need when they need it. There are a variety of products available and these products are suitable for all kinds of closet spaces. Whether you have a huge walk-in or a tiny area, there will still be several closet organizer systems from which to choose.

Many people opt for cedar in this particular area of the home. The cedar wood is a natural insect repellant that makes the perfect material for closet organizer systems. These products are typically pricy but they last a lifetime and they are of superior quality. Using cedar as the building material for this project is ideal and it is a great investment.

Homes that have built in closet organizer systems made mostly out of cedar yield greater value. A buyer is very attracted to a well organized closet space and even more attracted to one made out of cedar. Just like wood floors, these closet organizer systems increase the value of your home.

Not everyone is interested in selling and many people simply do not like too much wood in their homes. Closet organizer systems can be made out of many different types of material. Metal products are commonly used for these kinds of projects and they are a cost-effective alternative to expensive cedar.

You can also find these items in a number of different places. Many people will only trust a professional when it comes to their homes. Businesses like California Closets take care of every detail from the initial design to the installation. Even though these closet organizer systems can be very pricy many people choose to take this route for the convenience and the quality.

On the other end of the spectrum, you can find closet organizer systems in retail stores like Wal-Mart or K-Mart. These stores offer the items at a mere fraction of the price. It is important to remember that you will typically have to assemble these products yourself and the quality will not come close to the professionally installed closet organizer systems.

Some do-it-yourselfers fair well by buying building materials recycled from other parts of their home or from other houses. You can build magnificent closet organizer systems using recycled building materials at a very reasonable price. Even if you choose to buy the materials new you will still save a bundle by building your closet organizer system yourself.

Home organization is necessary. Things like coat racks, closet shelves, door hangers, armoires and other items like that are essential to a good, clean atmosphere in the home but many people fail to realize that. If you find that every time you come home your brain goes into chaotic mode, there must be organization issues. The more organized your home is, the better you are going to be at finding things when you want them. This saves time and can contribute to better control over your residence and your belongings than you probably ever dreamed of.

Buying Closet organizers

Closet organization is one thing that can help you become more organized with your home. A well organized closet is a great benefit it can help you keep track of your clothes and make you faster in the a.m. and keep all of your coats in much better condition as well. The better organized your closet is, the better the start of you will to have. Being able to find your personal items with ease every single morning will definitely improve your day. Imagine an effortless morning, when the worst thing to face is the traffic when you go out. An organize closet can do that for you.

A mounted coat rack or Coat Hook Can Keep Your Front Closet Free of Clutter

Another thing to consider is a wall coat hook for your front door. This is important to consider, as there are several different things that you may do with your coat when you come in. In most cases, it probably ends up on the back of a chair, on the floor. | lying across your bed. [/spin] What a huge difference having a coat rack in the entryway of your house can do it can give you a great place to store your coat as soon as you come in, staying there until you need it in the morning. Of course, this works just as well, as you won't have to waste time searching around for your coat and hat those wintry mornings when you can't possibly leave without them.

Where to Get Home Organization Supplies

There are many places where you can obtain items to help you get more organized. Depending on what your style is is, you can go with any number of items to help you get organized. Closet organizers and coat racks or hooks are just a few examples that you can research to keep your coats off the furniture and where they belong. You will be amazed at how much easier your life can be.

Gas chainsaws cannot be used indoors, whereas, electric chainsaws can be worked with safely indoors, and electric models vibrate less than gas models. It should be observed, however, that an electric chainsaw should not be used in wet weather or more than 150 feet from an outlet and, only 100 feet for most models.

There are downsides to electric chainsaws. You always need to be very careful with the power cord and ensure that it does not get tangled up. They are inadequate when a lot of power is required, since they do tend to be less powerful than a gas chainsaw although they do not produce any emissions which may be a consideration for those watching their carbon footprint. Electric saws work well for cutting smaller tree limbs and logs and are lightweight, but your movement and range is limited by an electric cord. For the serious firewood cutter, a gas chainsaw is the best choice for both power and portability.

Perhaps, the greatest benefit of remodeling your kitchen is the increase in the home’s value. When it comes to DIY remodeling and home value, you will find that, in most cases, a home’s value increases with any remodeling project, including a Kitchen Remodeling project.

Although a large number of homes see an increase in their values, thanks to a kitchen remodeling project, not all of them do. Honestly, it all depends on the quality of the remodeling [/spin]work|done[/spin]. If a remodeling project is poor in quality leading to later additional problems with the home, you might find the home value decreasing instead of increasing.

As a homeowner, you have the power to decided what will and will not happen to your kitchen. In addition to deciding whether or not you will do your own Home Remodeling, you can also decide which type of DIY remodeling needs to done. If you need to fix a few repairs, you could easily remodel only a portion of your kitchen, but if you would like a brand new look, you could remodel your whole kitchen; the decision is yours to make.

You might also want to consider how you would like each portion of your kitchen remodeled. For instance, if you are only interested in replacing your kitchen counter on a budget, you can easily find and choose the new materials, supplies, and designs that you want to use. When it come to choices, this is just one of the many pros to DIY kitchen remodeling.

Many people swear by florescent light bulbs while others would beg to differ, preferring incandescent ones. And now, compact fluorescent light (CFL) bulbs and LEDs have entered the fray.

Incandescent bulbs get their name from the fact that they literally burn. Incandescence means to glow with heat. The tungsten filament is found inside a void within the bulb. When electricity is forced through the wire, it the moving electrons encounter resistance from the filament. This causes the the filament to heat up to the point where it glows.

The inside of the bulb has a coating on it that diffuses the intensity of the light coming from the metal. While some bulbs have a transparent covering, it only affects the look but the fundamental workings of a bulb is still the same.

The idea behind the light bulb is to simulate the wavelength of the rays given off by the sun. The main factor in determining this is the sun's surface temperature, which is about 6,000 Kelvin. In Celsius, that would about 5,700 degrees. The formula is K = C + 273. The more commonly known measurement would be 10,300F. This transfers to light bulbs in something known as color temperature.

Bulbs for the interior will be a bit more bluish than the yellow of the sun. This means that the color temperature will be a bit less also. Color temperature is not to be confused with actual temperature. When an incandescent bulb glows, it will be anywhere from 120F-200F or more. To get a feel for how hot that is, water boils at 220F or 100C.

Fluorescent bulbs do not generate as much heat because they operate in a totally different way.

Fluorescent bulbs are made up of a vapor, usually consisting of mercury and small amounts of a few other gases, and some electrodes. One end of the electrode receives some voltage, which is then propelled toward the other end. Along the way, it makes contact with the mercury atoms. This gives energy to the mercury atoms, which is released as the light we see.

Very little energy is wasted during this process, and that is the reason that little heat is produced by these bulbs. For this reason, fluorescent bulbs are a much more efficient form of light. It just means that their energy output is equal to the energy input.

The light that comes from incandescent bulbs is due to the filament actually burning white hot. The light given off is much less than the heat it produces. The problem for you is that you are only getting a fraction of light for the energy you pay for to produce it.

Fluorescent light is different from incandescent light. They work at a different range and a different color temperature. Before CFLs came along, fluorescent bulbs have been reserved for use in places such as garages and basements.

You will pay about 3-10 times less for an incandescent bulb than you will for a fluorescent. It's up to you to decide which is better for you, paying less for a bulb that doesn't last as long (750-1000 hours), or paying more for a bulb that will last longer (6,000-15,000). Your overall savings for fluorescent bulbs will be about 70%. this includes the electric bill and the initial purchase price.

Many people have debated the effects of various types of light bulbs on the environment. When compared to other factors, such as auto exhaust and industrial gases, it really has no impact at all. In fact, it's so little that it really shouldn't even be involved in such a discussion.

So after all of this, the type of bulb you choose will be determined by a number of factors, mostly personal preference. This and your budget will be the biggest factors, at least until you learn about LEDs.

Many people used to stick to materials such vinyls or ceramic when it comes to flooring as such materials are lasting and cheap. But, with recent technological advances, many different types of materials are now made more affordable and are also long lasting. These materials are also good choices for flooring.

Hardwood flooring options are quite popular, and even though they are still a bit pricey, they are more durable and affordable than ever before. There is a hardwood floor to fit just about any budget these days, whether it's Brazilian Walnut or Australian Cypress. If properly cared for, these floors can last up to 50 years or more. Hardwood floors combine beauty and durability.

Laminates are a nice alternative to hardwoods, if you do not have the budget or the time to commit to caring for them. The faux wood and ceramic patterns both look nice. They're also quite durable, due to their four-layer construction. Their low cost and ease of installation make them a popular choice.

Ceramic flooring options are still much in demand, and it's easy to see why. They have a beautiful rich look that will last for decades if properly cared for. Porcelain continues to gain popularity among ceramic fans because of it's beautiful and strong support.

Another popular type of flooring option that isn't just reserved for the basement anymore is concrete. Almost every room uses concrete. It's available in a number of different surface effects to make it look like other materials, such as marble or tile. This is great looking flooring at an affordable price.

Of course, no list of flooring options would be complete without mentioning carpeting. There are at least six different basic styles of carpeting, including flatweave, cut pile and others. These styles are then available in numerous different colors and designs. Whether you're using simple throw rugs or wall to wall, carpet is an affordable and durable choice.

There is increasing focus being given to what is found beneath the floor as well.

Heating systems are becoming more cost effective all the time. Electric mesh and radiant tubing are two popular choices that keep the floor warm as well as heat the room. This can save you money by eliminating the need to install additional heating sources.

Sub-floors are also getting more attention as existing flooring needs to be replaced. Concrete has joined plywood as a popular sub-floor choice. Planking has also become more effective as a sub-floor option. Insect invasions and water damage is less of a problem these days due to improved wood treatments.

The condition of the sub-floor is also important if you plan on installing tile. The surface must be level and well prepared to get it to lay correctly.

Then there is the need to take care of it all after installation.

No matter what type of flooring you get, it's going to require a certain amount of maintenance. Carpets are going to require scrubbing. Ceramic tile and laminates will need to be mopped. Hardwoods require even more care to prevent aging and scratching. In addition to basic cleaning, you may also be required to make minor repairs to your flooring.

Choosing the proper flooring can make the difference in the overall look of your room. It is more important to maintain your flooring than it is to choose the material. Find out exactly what kind of maintenance requirements are necessary before making your choice.

When embarking on a plumbing project, be sure that you seal the pipes and hoses well. It might be harder than you think. Do read up on how it can be done. However, it is also very important to make sure you have the appropriate tools.

Never use a sealant that is not designed for what you are doing. Sink flanges on a garbage disposal unit should be secured with plumber's putty. There are types of special wax or grease sealants that are suitable to be used on the base of the toilet. Shower pipes and spouts should be sealed with caulking, and the list goes on from there.

Many people regret substituting the wrong sealant for a particular job. PVC pipe glue should not be used for applications designed for plumber's putty. If you use these things rather than Teflon plumber's tape on hoses, you will never be able to remove it should you ever decide to replace the hoses.

Be sparing but not stingy. It's also important to use the right amounts. For example, a ¼ inch bead of plumber's putty is sufficient to seal around a sink. Too much will require quite a bit of clean up. If you don't use enough, the water will be able to leak in under the sink.

Wipe away the extra without removing too much. If too much sealant is used, it will tear or split after it dries. Using your finger or a damp sponge, lightly wipe away any extra and you should be fine. Also, make sure you clean up any smears before they dry.

Be generous with Teflon plumber's tape. Usually you cannot use too much, but in rare cases, it could create small channels for the water to escape through. The reason it's so hard to overdo it is because it is very flexible and compressible. Obviously, you don't want to put so much on that it becomes difficult to fit the new pipe or hose on.

Wind it in the proper direction. If you're dealing with hoses, direction won't be an issue, but you'll need to make sure it's in the proper direction if you are planning to use it on threading pipes. If it's not done correctly, the tape will twist off. The tail of the tape should be facing the direction you will be threading onto it. This will create a good seal as the tape stretches in the same direction the pipe is being threaded. If the tape twists the other way, you will not have a good seal at all.

Avoid torn ends. Try to avoid tearing the tape or biting it off with your teeth. It can seem like a good idea if you are working in a cramped space that is hard for you to move around. This can lead to stretching and tearing of the ends. If the tape is stretched too much before it is threaded on the pipe, it will not seal correctly.

If the tape is cut cleanly, it will set in the threads better and not leave any ridges that could cause leaks. This should be done on the front and back of the tape. If you have ridges, you will create small openings for water to escape from.

If you use the correct sealant for each job and follow the directions when doing it, your plumbing projects will be well sealed and leak free.

The opinions of people regarding Kirby vacuums are usually in two distinct categories. One group feels that they are the best vacuums that money could ever buy and worth every penny. The second group sees them as overrated and expensive machines. There does not seem to be much middle ground when it comes to the Kirby Vacuums. Many of the people who do not like Kirby or think it is too costly really do not know that much about the brand, and they assume that people who buy one do not know any better. Those who do purchase Kirby vacuums, however, know about the quality and the durability that the brand has, and they find that there are no other brands that will last as long or work as well. They would simply not be satisfied with an ordinary Oreck Vacuums. They can certainly purchase a cheaper cleaning machine, but they avoid doing so because they know that it will not last as long as a Kirby and the warranty will often not be what they are looking for, either.

For people who decide that they are interested in a Kirby vacuums, they cannot simply go to a store and purchase one. A lot of people just go to their local retail chain store, and they do not understand why they cannot find the Kirby brand. This brand is not sold in stores, though, and people who wish to buy one have to find a sales representative and get that person to come to their home. Generally, they find someone through a family member or a friend who is a Kirby owner, but the phone book and the Internet can also point them in the right direction. In the past, representatives from the company used to go door to door and try to sell vacuums, but that is not seen as often anymore. It does still happen in some parts of the country where Kirbys are more popular, however, because there are specific areas in the United States where the brand is seen as having more value than in other areas, as a generalization.

The people who find a representative and sit through an in-home demonstration will get all of the information that they need about the Kirby brand. They see how well the vacuum works, and they also learn about the warranty and other options, including the opportunity to finance their Kirby. A lot of people who purchase one cannot afford to buy it outright, so they agree to make payments, at an often rather high interest rate, until their vacuum is paid for. The Kirby vacuum is an investment in taking care of their home, not just a machine to clean their carpets. Not everyone sees this, of course, and there are people who would never dream of financing a vacuum cleaner, but many people who own Kirbys insist that they would not buy anything else. The attachments that come with them and the prestige that is attached to the Kirby name are only a couple of reasons why people pay a lot of money to acquire one.

As all woodworkers know you can spend many years as well as a small fortune purchasing woodworking tools. But there are a couple of essential tools for a home workshop. There are three must have tools that every do-it-yourself wood working shop should have. The first is a good tablesaw they can be used for ripping and cutting dadoes. The second is a band saw although several cuts that can be made with a band saw can also be made with a saber saw I believe the band saw is a necessity. Lastly finally all wood working shops must have at least one router.

Table saws have three basic styles a contractors style table saw, a hybrid table saw and a cabinet style table saw. The contractors style is usually the least expensive and is built to fold up and be stowed in the back of a truck, this makes it a good option for the homeowner who has a small space. A cabinet style table saw is usually more heavy-duty and has at least a 3 hp motor on it and utilizes a 10 or 12 blade. These are designed to be used in one place so you need to have a good spot for it. They are usually larger than the other styles of table saws and are built with longevity in mind. A hybrid table saw falls in between the two is usually lighter built like that of the contractors table saw but built into a conventional cabinet these are a good option for the wood worker on a budget.

Routers are an extremely versatile tool that all woodworkers need. Today router bits can be bought in an unlimited number of different configuration. Whether you just need to chamfer an edge or you are building cabinet a wood working router is indispensable. Router bits are available with three different shank sizes 1/4", 3/8" and 1/2" most router bits on the market today are carbide tipped.

A band saw allows the woodworker to cut tight curves and circles and also allows the woodworker to re-saw their stock into narrower pieces. Yes you can cut circles with a saber saw but the Delta the band saw will allow you to do this much quicker and with greater safety. Band saws come in a bench top design or a floor model. Bench top styles usually have a smaller throat clearance, generally in the 6 inch range where as floor models generally start out at about 12 inches and go up from there most of your larger commercial Delta the band saws have a least a 20 inch throat.

Are you a home owner who has an occasional need to use a chainsaw? Are you a little intimidated by the size and weight of a gas-powered chainsaw? An electric chainsaw, on the other hand, may be just what you need.

Advantages of an Electric Chainsaw.

An electric chainsaw provides a number of advantages over gasoline-powered saws. Here are the considerations:

1. Lighter Weight

No doubt, the most beneficial difference with electric chainsaws is their lighter weight by comparison and ease of handling.

2. Less Fatigue

Because of their greater weight and lower ease of use, gas-powered chainsaws can be fatiguing. One of the most prevalent complaints from consumers is that sawing with heavy chainsaws often brings on fatigue. However, since they are smaller, lighter, and more easily manageable, an electric chainsaw is more suitable for managing home-gardens.

3. They Cost Less to Buy & Operate

Electric chainsaws are cheaper to purchase than their gas driven counterparts Not only that, they have a lower operating cost, and do not entail repeated refuelings at the gas station.

4. They're Quieter

Gas chainsaws are much noisier than electric chainsaws. Your neighbors will appreciate it.

5. Friendly to the Environment

Toxic fumes are not emitted into the atmosphere with electric chainsaws.

6. Greater Safety

A major advantage of working with an electric chainsaw is the reduced risk of kickback, a potentially life-threatening situation occurring when the saw’s bar jerks back toward the user after the bar’s end hits some obstruction. Since electrics operate with reduced power, the potential for deadly kickback is lower.

7. Easier to Start

Electric chainsaws are also much easier to start.

Disadvantages of an Electric Chainsaw

There are a few disadvantages to electric chainsaws in comparison with gas-powered units.

1. Not as Much Power

Gasoline chainsaws, with the greater power of a two-cycle engine, are significantly more powerful than an electric chainsaw. As mentioned earlier, they are suitable for lighter garden and homeowner use, and not for heavier cutting requiting a gas saw.

2. Less Mobility

Use of an electric chainsaw is limited by the length of the cord and placing of the power source, thus constricting mobility in comparison with gas-driven saws.

In Summary

You should be mindful that these saws are made for lighter use more suitable for work around the average yard. Don't try to cut down a 100-year-old sycamore tree with it! If your need for a tool of this type involves anything in the deep woods, you may want a gas driven chainsaw instead.

So, give serious consideration to an electric chainsaw, if you"re the average homeowner.

Raise House Values
Many of us are participating in the home improvement thing today. There are a number of great benefits to be derived from doing your own home improvement. We can save money of course. We can also design our own projects so that they precisely satisfy our needs and add the personal touch exactly as we envision it.

A number of software packages are available to produce a 3D home design and show us the results before we ever spend a penny on materials. This new home design software has not only become much easier to use, while becoming much more sophisticated in what it can produce, it has also become wider ranging.

Services
Packages are now available that target specific home projects. You will find that these products allow you to fully design a new deck, complete a new landscape design outside, modify your house interior design, or the big one will let you design a new house from start to finish.

The computer and software are great but more help is available today. The big box home improvement stores have come a long way since the original Lowes concept. These big box stores maintain a complete inventory covering every imaginable product you may require in your project. The also carry a large educated staff that is most often quite willing to offer you assistance. That is good but they also appear to be well founded in the knowledge required to provide you with assistance.

If that isn't good enough, the big box home improvement stores also conduct routine seminars to educate you regarding specific products. All this assistance comes at no cost to the customer. The intention is to encourage and help you to complete your own home improvement.
Loews Home Improvement
Not only will these projects save you money but they will also increase the value of your home. It is quite practical for the average handyman to purchase a fix it up house, do some small improvements himself and then resell the house at a profit.

A wide range of near professional quality tools is available at your home improvement stores. Competition in the marketplace has been beneficial to the consumer. You can now purchase excellent quality tools to complete any phase of the job from preparation of raw, rough lumber to spray painting the completed project. All this is available at very competitive pricing.

The steam room was first used by the Greeks. The steam bath was then passed on to many different cultures or people such as the Romans. The steam shower eventually was brought to the European continent where the expansion was somewhat limited due to the cost associated with maintaining the temperature to keep an adequate amount of steam. Today with modern technology steam rooms can be placed just about anywhere at a reasonable cost.

A steam room is certainly much like taking a sauna, but the room temperature is not quite as high allowing the bather to stay for longer periods of time. The temperature range in the
steam bath is usually about 110F to 130 degrees. This allows the bather the benefit of sweating more and renewing the body’s energy levels. This will also help unclog pores allowing the skin to breathe more freely reducing the risk of acne in some people.

The rooms used for the steam room remain at a consistent temperature and is always filled with steam. This is just the opposite from a sauna where the humidity level is much lower around 65 to 75%. The steam level must remain close to 100% to be considered a steam room. A special generator is required to produce the right kind of steam that the steam rooms are known for. Steam generators require precise control systems and tightly built cabins are necessary to prevent any damage to the surround rooms.

Taking a steam room the right way is one of the important parts because if you do not take the correct steps you not receive all the benefits that a steam room has to offer. First the users must shower to remove all the dirt that clings to the body. Then the first session in the steam room may begin. It is not recommend to remain in for an extended period of time pay attention to the limits of your body because you do not want to overtax your system. Repeating the sessions is recommended for maximum benefits of the bath.

Some of the benefits that result from using the steam room can be reduced pain from some chronic conditions. Many people that suffer from chronic bronchitis will notice a difference in their breathing. The skin will also be softer and not be dry when the sessions are taken often. Many the benefits of the steam room are only noticed when the bather is partaking in regular sessions.

Hardwood flooring can add a lot to a room. It carries with it benefits that are both practical and aesthetically pleasing. You can install a great looking wood floor in your room, and have the benefit of easier cleanups and not having to deal with staining carpets. To clean up a hardwood floor, all you have to do is either sweep or mop. You won’t have to spend huge amounts of money to get it professionally cleaned, like you may have to do with a carpet after enough years have passed. You can easily pay someone to install hardwood flooring, but why would you do that when you could enjoy the experience doing it yourself? Read on to find out about the basics of how to install hardwood floor. You may find that it sounds easy enough for you to do.

First you need to gather the necessary tools and supplies. The most helpful tool is the simplest one: a marker. If you use a marker to signify where all of the pieces belong, you will have a much easier time. You will also need the raw material (wood), preferably with grooves that will allow you to fit them together. This not only makes it easier to assemble the floor, but it also prevents warping in the future. Most wood flooring comes with these grooves, so you probably won’t have to go out of your way to find them. Finally, with hardwood floor installation you need a staple gun to fasten the boards to the subfloor.

When you start the floor, you will want to begin at a preset point. This could be the point where you want your wood flooring to transition to carpet, or the wall where you want it to start. Pick the straightest board you can find, and line it up perfectly with the starting line. If it isn’t against a wall, you will want to use something to pin the wood down and keep it from sliding around. After you have the first board in place, simply start laying out the rest of the room piece by piece, staplng. You will encounter many stubborn boards along the way. They can curve in 2 directions – from side to side, or bottom to top. If you have boards that are curving from side to side, you will have an unsightly gap. Usually you can cure it by simply forcing the wood straight into its spot. If you need to, get some leverage with a crowbar or with another board. If the board is popping up off of the ground, step on the middle (or on the ends) to force it down and in. Once you get it in the groove and staple it in, you are not likely to have more problems with it popping out.

You should try to space the stapes about 8-16 inches apart from each other. For each row of boards, you should avoid placing the seams nearby each other. As a rule, give them about a foot of space each. As long as you pay attention to these certain rules, you will have a great-looking hardwood floor in no time at all.

With a large number of solar energy power plants turning up these days, it is no wonder that it can get pretty competitive. Ausra Solar Heat and Power, the Australian-American company, however, has managed to stand above the crowd.

Based in Palo Alto, California, the company got its name from an ancient Indo-European goddess of the dawn. Ausra is a solar thermal technology company, which focuses on producing electricity from sunlight that could lower the cost of generating utility-scale power with less complexity, unlike its rivals. This makes Ausra one of the premier alternative energy companies.

What solar thermal power plants do is to capture heat from the sun and then use it to power turbines to generate electricity. Ausra uses inexpensive flat plate mirrors that are approximately 4-feet-long called Fresnel reflectors. These reflectors will focus the sun's rays directly on water pipes which will boil the water to run the steam turbines that will then generate electricity.

With concentrated solar power plants, trough-like structures are used which have curved mirrors focusing the sunlight onto the tubes of oil. The heat from the oil is then used to make steam that will drive the electricity-generating turbine.

The system used may help to reduce the solar power-generated electricity expenses. The Fresnel reflectors of Ausra tend to be flat, unlike the curved and finely tuned mirrors of the conventional trough design.

Ausra Solar Heat and Power uses a system that also heats water directly to generate steam compared to the more traditional systems wherein they first heat the oil to generate heat. This may have caused Ausra to be less efficient at converting solar energy into electricity.

Founded in 2002, the Solar Heat and Power in Australia was originated by David Mills in the early 1990s at Sydney University. Graham Morrison helped Mills to develop it from 1995 to 2001.

Now known as Ausra, the Ausra Solar Heat and Power built a one-megawatt pilot project in Australia for the Macquarie Generation in 2004 at South Wales. The company then moved to the United States in February and is currently working on a second 38-megawatt capacity power plant that would be finished by 2009. Ausra has also begun construction of a 6.5-megawatt power plant in Portugal and also has plans to build a 180-megawatt plant in the United States.

Benefits of Home Design Software

Do you have some spare time on your hands, you are bored and considering some interior design remodelling? Maybe you think those walls look great in red? I bet the wife will love it! She likes red I am pretty sure! I am going to go to ome improvement store right now and get the paint so I can surprise her when she gets home! Well you better plan this home improvement a bit better than that.

Freshen Up Your Home with Cad Software for Home Design

Yes, you are sure that the room would look better in red. Well, you may be right about that vision. However, as we all know, it can be real hard making the final decision on room changes and interior design. That is why there is design home improvement software there to help.

Software for home remodelling design comes in a variety of packages but you want a package that is the most flexible and offers you the easiest way to create full views of your rooms on your computer but allow you to change things easily.

Cad software for home design (computer aided) may at first appear expensive but the cost savings by avoiding divorce lawyers and contractor repairs will in the end prove a worthwhile investment and design home improvement software is available in some pretty economical yet sophisticated packages.

You can use interior design software to see how your room will look with different colors on the walls and even different layouts of the furniture. It is not unusual during interior design research that people will change everything including the color of their furniture. So why not use software for home remodelling design to see what everything will look like using a wide variety of colors and schemes.

You can match colors of the drapes with the walls and the couch. The beauty of cad home design software is that it allows you to try everything without the worry about making a very expensive mistake. You can also use interior design software to rearrange the furniture and see what layout might appear best without someone moving all the furniture around several times.

Home Design Software and Home Improvement Products

You can also use interior design software to completely remodel a room. You can see what a room would look like with part of a wall removed or even with the whole wall removed. The only thing the interior design software may not reveal, are you considering removing a load bearing wall. You must be sure not to do that when performing a major home improvement.

You can plan all you want on home design software and cad but before you consider removing walls you may want to get advice from a contractor just so your upper floor does not become your lower floor.

Another great function of cad software for home design is to see what a room would look like if you changed the main purpose of that room. What if you wanted to turn one of your bedrooms into a recreation room? You can use the home design software floor plan to see what it would all look like without moving a any furniture or applying a drop of paint.

Interior design projects can be very expensive and the best way to avoid costly planning mistakes is to plan ahead.

Raise House Values
It has become a very profitable business to buy homes, fix them up a little bit and then resell them at a tidy profit. Real estate prices continue to rise and this has produced a lucrative market in reselling houses. As a result, interest in home improvement had sky rocketed. Many homes can be purchased that simply require a quick room remodel or a fresh coat of paint. Maybe an older couple is moving into a retirement community and although their house is structurally sound, it needs some fresh paint or wallpaper. Maybe you can do a quick makeover on the bathroom and kitchen cupboards. These are all fairly simple upgrades that involve minimal investment but return good value when reselling the house. The key is to acquire a house that does not require major structural repair and simply needs to be freshened up.

Sump Pump Installation
Today, people don't want to buy a run down house where the paint is peeling. Nobody wants to invest in a house whose with leaky plumbing. You would not wish to get into a project requiring major home plumbing construction or sump pump installation issues. Having observed this, if one is planning to sell a house, home improvement is essential to realize a good price on the sale of your home. These days package appearance is everything. If the house you are selling does not appear neat and trim, the chances of your selling it at a satisfactory price will be much lower.

This is one of the reasons why home improvement loans have become a frequent practice. Now it seems that we all want to increase the value of our home and property by carrying out home improvements. Apart from looking nice, a well cared for home is also a better investment. A neat well maintained looking home is valued at a higher price and will also facilitate better deals if you apply for a personal secured loan. An unsecured loan is not the most difficult to get, but they usually come with a higher interest rate and require a better credit rating. In most cases it is acceptable to apply for an unsecured loan but if you have a house to offer as collateral, a secured loan is usually a better option.

DIY Home Improvement
This brings us to the issue of financing home improvements. If you own a house, you could opt for a secured home improvement loan. This will allow you to secure lower rates of interest and you will most likely be able to borrow a greater amount. If you are still in the process of paying down a current mortgage, you could also opt for a home equity loan. Home equity loans allow you to leverage the equity value of your home. This advance of funds can then be used to finance other costs such as education, emergencies or home improvements.

Ultimately, it will all come down to how you would like to finance your do it yourself home improvements. Think it out well and do some research on all your options. Banks and credit unions are only too happy to help you secure a personal secured loan, home equity loans and home improvement loans.

Installing a bath tub can be a tough task, that said with the right tools and info on how to install a bath tub, it can be successfully completed. It's a solid idea to think about other options before deciding to install a new bath tub. An existing bath tub can be updated and improved upon by having it reglazed, or by having a fitted liner created and installed. These options can decrease the length of time and cost involved in replacing a tub.

If you've decided that installing a bathtub is the only option, you should learn how to install a bath tub. If you have the appropriate plumbing and construction knowledge, or know someone who does, the first step is to assemble the necessary tools for the job.

A bath tub installation will require some basic tools that you will most likely already own, such as a hammer, level, nails, screws, tape measure, hacksaw and drill. Other parts and tools may have to be purchased for the job, such as a tube cutter, propane torch, PVC pipes, plastic shims and, of course, your new bath tub. Safety equipment, such as goggles, should always be worn whenever necessary during the project.

When installing a bath tub to replace an existing unit, the old bath tub needs to be disconnected and removed. It's best to choose a similar size and style of bath tub, so no additional framing or alteration of original water supply lines needs to be performed.

Using as much assistance as is necessary, place the new bath tub into place and use shims to level it. Support boards should be present under the rim of the bath tub to help support its weight. After the bath tub is leveled and is adequately supported, the next focus is to connect the necessary plumbing.

The steps needed to connect the plumbing will depend on what is already present from the previous bath tub. The drainpipe may have to be cut to fit, so that it connects to the trap, which should be centered below it. Reconnect all of the plumbing fixtures in the same manner as the previous bath tub was disconnected.

After turning on the water and testing the entire system, it may need to be inspected, depending on building code regulations. After completing any necessary inspections, the final faucets and handles can be connected and the surrounding walls can be refinished and caulked.

Although the process of bath tub installation can be complicated, once you learn how to install a bath tub, you can save a great deal of money by completing the task yourself. If you have the right tools and supplies available, along with some assistance to move the bath tub, the entire process can be completed in as little as a day.
