After a month off, tried to cut the grass and the sufficiently high gas with its old gas mower. From rope broke, and it took a couple of days to repair the gym all the time getting bigger. I bought a black & Decker mowers, line 36-volt battery in the Amazon on Thursday. They sent a unit and received it the following Saturday. Unfortunately, it has been damaged and I was forced to return unused. I rearrange the mower seconds on Monday and got a new lawn mower on Thursday it is ready to get out of the box. I am a night charge (recommended) and I was pleasantly surprised to easily act on the mower very grass.I have used this mower a few times since I've been very happy with the product and the Amazon, which covers the beginning of a defective product. Pressing the button, and no seat belt is more desirable than the spilling of oil, gas check, and pull on the rope, but maybe you should think about the Black & Decker Battery CM1936 fact that there mower.The Bonus exhaust pollution.

I like this product. I ended up tying the "key" to a handle bar cross bar w/ a piece of acc. cord (easier to keep track of). It seems to use more power (battery charge) when mulching. I use the bag frame and take the mulch plug out allowing the grass to blow out of the back and, as long as the discharge shoot doesn't get clogged, the mower seems to use less charge. I have found that when I unplug the battery for a short time, when it is fully charged, and plug it back in, the charger shows a red light for a short time then a green light which goes out after a second or 2 then the red light green light process starts over and over.... If I leave it unplugged for a bit longer then plug it back in it works fine, no red light green light process, just a short term red light then back to a solid green light.
I have owned a plug in (corded) mower in the past that when it was "bogged down" in the least the motor would fry and then was useless. I have bogged this mower to the point of almost stopping it and there were no adverse effects. I hope this has helped you lead a more fruitful and productive life? "thank you, come again"

Far Better Mower Than Expected!

My husband and I researched every article we could find on cordless mowers and finally settled on this one. I absolutely love it! I go out to the garage and in seconds the mower is on, lowered or raised (the easiest I have EVER seen), and I'm off. No smell, no pulling strings, no pollution, no worrying about having gas in the garage. It performs far better than I expected. For example, I expected it to run of out charge fairly quick given I have a fairly large backyard (small front yard). I have yet to run out of charge or even see some slow down. It's amazing and so incredibly easy. This lawnmower is worth every penny and more. It doesn't kick things up in my face either.

The only caviat is that you can't let your grass get too high or it will falter a bit. This is not for moving high grass or weeds. For standard lawns, it's great. And its another way I can tell BP and the rest of the oil industry to go to hell.

I always follow the recommendations of Consumer Reports...I never buy anything unless it's rated highest in that magazine--never been disappointed. Well, they got it exactly right--this mower is terrific in every way: hangling, operation and the cut itself...the only downside is (and I assume it's common) is it's a little heavy so it would be helpful to be fit to push it around. I had a cord electric for years. B & D lasts lasts and lasts...It was the best to get now--far superior to any gas mower (as long as your property has about 1/3 acre of grass, GET THIS! The price is justified. I'm very happy indeed with this mower!!!!!!

Excellent Mower

I bought this mower for environmental and convenience reasons primarily.
It has lived up to the advertisements in every way.
I live in a rental home with no garage, but rather a shed for storage with no electrical connection.
Being able to remove the battery (a cinch) and charge inside is great.
Battery life is great (I sometimes do my neighbors on the same charge) and the mower is powerful and quiet.
No smell, no turn-ups, no gas and oil. This is a great product for me!

Took a bit of a risk...

I purchased this mower off of Amazon a few weeks ago and have mowed my yard twice now.

In the past I've always had gas mowers but when we moved across country I left the old one there. In looking for a replacement, I began to think through what I liked and disliked about previous mowers. In the end, it really came down to not wanting to deal with all the gas/oil and noise I had become accustomed to and frankly to try something different.
Well, at least after a month, I feel like my shopping around, reading reviews and digging into the details was successful. We have about 9-10,000sq ft of lawn spread over 4 different plots and it mows them just fine with juice to spare. I generally put the mower on the top 2 height settings so it doesnt bog down and it mulches the grass up nicely.
Overall, I'm very satisified with this purchase.

Excellent Cordless Electric Mower!!

After using this lawn mower, I will never go back to a gas powered mower again. The smell and the hassel of running out of gas in the middle of mowing is enough for me to make the switch! This mower has so many wonderful features that make it easy for anyone to use that I highly recommend it!

This cordless electric lawn mower has a very easy to charge removable battery. You can either charge the battery in the mower or take it out and charge it in the garage. It's very easy to collapse by just pushing the handle over and it takes up minimal space anywhere you store it!

I also love the fact that this lawn mower does both our front and back yard on one battery charge! Once the yard is done, I just make sure to recharge the battery right after so it's ready to go the next time, it's all set. While the mower is running it's very quiet and extremely easy to start.

If you're ready to give up your gas lawn mower and "go greener" this is the exact mower to do it with! I absolutely love mine! If you're on the fence, I highly recommend this mower to everyone!

Second B&D Cordless

I used the original B&D CMM1000 for 12 years without any problems. It needed no maintenance, and even the blade rarely needed sharpening. After all this time, the battery finally wouldn't take a full charge this year, so I decided to put the cost of a new battery (5, it's actually two 12 volts in series) towards a new mower. There weren't many cordless mowers 12 years ago, now there seem to be a bunch, but based on my good experience with the older model I decided go with the CM1936. The CM1936 is a dandy mower, alot like the CMM1000 but with a 36 volt removable battery.

My lot is around 1/3 acre, less the footprint of my house and shed. Alot of starting and stopping and picky mowing around my wife's vegetable beds, flower gardens, etc. The CM1936 mows it all without losing power, which it has plenty of. Starts right up, runs quiet, especially when mulching. A single height adjuster takes care of all the wheels. (Hard to believe there are still mowers that make you adjust each wheel separately.) It's really handy to be able to charge the battery somewhere other than where the mower is stored. This looks to be another no-maintenance mower. Unplug it, mow, plug it back in. What more could you ask for. The only con I can think of is the blade seemed a bit dull out of the box.

Give up that stinky gas mower. Go cordless.

I can't say enough about what a great mower this is and how much we like it. The first thing that comes to mind is just how EASY it is to start this mower by simply pushing the start button and engaging the safety handle. No more of the old pull-start mower that was so difficult and frustrating! And, of course, there's no messy gasoline or oil with this mower. The 36-volt battery is easily installed and is easily removed for charging. The battery can be charged while still in the mower, but it works well for us to take it out for charging. As the owner's manual says, the battery should be left plugged in at all times when it's not in use. This will give the longest battery life and will ensure that it's fully charged when you're ready to mow. We have 1.6 acres, and my husband mows the large areas with our Farmall A tractor, but I use our Black & Decker cordless for all of the trim mowing and for areas around our house and around our large, fenced garden. This mower cuts right through the heaviest grass with no problems, and I typically mow for at least two hours or longer with no loss of battery power. The first time I used this mower, I was amazed at just how long I could mow without the battery running down! It can be used as a mulching mower, but we use the grass catcher so that we can add the grass to our compost. The bag works great and is very easy to remove to empty the grass clippings. The height adjustment is unbelievably easy!! Just one handle quickly raises or lowers the mowing deck, so you can make adjustments as needed if you come to an area of high, tough grass. There's much less noise with this mower than with a gas-powered mower, and even though it's not self-propelled, I have found that the mowing is so easy that I don't mind doing the pushing. Honestly, I can say this is by far the BEST hand mower that we've ever used. It has everything we want--ease of operation, excellent cutting, no fumes, no frustrating pull start, and much less noise. Truthfully, I cannot think of one single drawback to this mower. One additional thought: For us, environmental concerns are very important, so we're very happy to have a mower that doesn't use gas or oil. We're transitioning to solar and wind power here at our home, and that will make this a zero carbon emissions mower. If this is something that's important to you, then it's one more reason to consider buying this fantastic mower. My husband and I highly recommend it!

Over the years, I have some lower end with cable trimmers. The cable is still on the road, and is not suitable to use scissors.

When I left extension cords second, I had enough and bought the Black & Decker NHT518-1 18-volt cordless hedge trimmer electric. I was a little worried that the battery does not last long and the battery weight would be difficult to use the trimmer. In contrast, the trimer is considerably exceeded my expectations.

The battery lasts long enough to meet all my (small) garden needs pruning less battery power. And the design of the trimmer seems to be well balanced and easy to maneuver. It is much more convenient to use the trimmer in my past that have helped me a lot to my father-in-law and trim shrubs, neighbor! (And I like working in the garden).

Great Tool

Recieved this yesterday from Amazon with 2 day shipping. Came completely assembled
Trimmed juniper bush (14 years old) and cut through some pretty tough stuff. I do have the grass trimmer and the pole trimmer with 18 Volt batteries. I used two batteries to do about 80 feet of juniper, and used a 3rd battery trimming the lower branches of evergreen trees.
overall worked as described, and very light weight. Good to have a second battery handy. I have gone now with 4 B&D yard tools with the 18 Volt batteries and they are all interchangeable.
I wonder how I went so long without one of these....Great product

Great yard tool

I have a gas trimmer but don't like using it very much. I got the gas trimmer to replace a corded electric trimmer that froze up. The gas trimmer is heavy, vibrates like crazy, and is loud. When I use it I wear gloves, ear plugs, and safety glasses. It takes a couple hours to recover from using it for extended periods of time.

I got this cordless trimmer and could not be happier for one of my self-bought christmas presents. I wore safety glasses and that was all that was required. It had been a while since I had trimmed my hedges which are arranged in three layers and the front lower hedges are rounded. I thought the battery would die before I was done but to my surprise I still had power left when I was completely done with the hedges and five other bushes. After trimming with this cordless, even without ear plugs, I could still hear, my arms weren't constantly shaking/vibrating, my muscles weren't tired from supporting the light weight of this one, I didn't have to stop and mix oil and gas and refill the tank which causes me to smell like gas, and I didn't have to fight with the cord like my previous electric trimmer.

Using this one is painless, smell-less, noise-less, very easy, and very quick. Just push the lock button, grip the trigger handle, and start trimming. No fueling, cranking, getting out the extension cord and then having to put it back up.

Works great and power is just enough

This is a great hedge trimmer made by Black and Decker. The trimmer is quiet and because it is electric, it starts and stops instantly. The handle is sort of thick so squeezing the trigger and cutting for more than 5 minutes at a time might make your hand cramp (that's what happens to me and I am 200 pounds). It states it can cut branches 3/4 inch, and it is true. With enough tenacity, you can cut up to 1 inch branches. When branches are too thick and get cut in the trimmer, it automatically shuts off. You then have to unjam it to restart it.

Battery life is somewhat decent. I got about 30 minutes of use out of one battery with a few minutes break in-between. Highly suggested to have a spare battery charged and ready to go while you are using this. There is no option to connect a cord to it, only battery.

The batteries are interchangeable with other 18 volt B&D tools, which is a huge plus. I have the complete set of blower, weed whacker and this trimmer. If you need a complete set, check out the Lawn Care set. That comes with a 3 battery charger (3 batteries) and hanging kit to organize the tools.

The charger that is supplied with it is a "dummy" charger. It does not know when the battery is full and you have to keep an eye on how long you have had it plugged in. Recommendations are to not have it charged for more than 8 hours. I normally charge my battery in the morning and then use it in the afternoon.

All in all, this is a great trimmer. It is silent and powerful. You can get a lot of work done without worrying about disturbing your neighbors because it makes very little sound.

I highly recommend this tool.

Great trimmer

Bought the B&D NHT518 18 volt hedge trimmer because I was tired of "dancing" with the corded trimmer in order not to cut the cord, again, and again, and again.

This 18volt model is more powerful and lasts longer on one recharge than my neighbor's trimmer from another manufacture that cost more than what I paid.

It's light, well balanced and powerful. Now I look forward for the hedges to grow faster..that's how pleased I am. And my neighbor chucked his and bought this model.

And the nice part is that the battery can be used in other B&D models that use this battery type, INCLUDING their Drills, and Saws.

Excellent product. The battery charge lasts plenty long to do several bushes. Cuts well. Not having a cord to deal with is wonderful. Just pick it off the shelf, cut, and put back on theshelf. I recommend buying the better charger and not using the basic charger that comes with the unit. The better one allows you to leave the battery in the charger without overcharging and hence damaging it.

It is very easy, quiet and easy to use.

I spent an hour or two a day to clear a patch of brush 100 feet by 50 feet, with trees up to 3 cm and a bunch of brambles. live and dead wood. With two batteries is perfect for an hour and a half or two hours. Certainly I can not do everything in one day, but I am not fit for him, and I bet a couple of weekend warriors.

I've used this saw for three days now and am really impressed. I allready had another two batteries and a charger so with three batteries and two chargers I can get alot done before I run out of juice. It will take down a 10 inch thick tree and take alot of two or three inch limbs off easily, really lite weight and easy to use, I highly recomend it.

THis is the chainsaw that always starts! I gave away my gas chainsaws. It was the first Black and Decker 18volt tool I purchased. I Love this because I can get a lot done trimming around the farm. I have the alligator lopper and some others that I have purchased so I have batteries for extended use but the chainsaw and I usually run down and need recharging at the same time so it works well. have had this chainsaw for about three years and use it regularly for clean-up work and taking down trees in vermont. easy to use, easy to maintain and the battery lasts for about 40-50 cuts before starting to fac\de (generally less than 4" diameter trees). have purchased a second battery pack and keep two charged, giving a longer workday. if this one were to break i would replace it without a second thought.

Good but could be better

I really like this cordless chainsaw for my small yard. Recently I had to clear the bushes away from my house so the painter could have access. The painter indicated he could have the bushes cleared out for about 4 times the price of the Black and Decker cordless chainsaw so I bought the B&D cordless instead and did it myself.

I plan on using it about a 1 hour per year so the included battery and charger should be fine.

One thing I did notice is that the chain oiler needs less than 30w oil as called out for in the instructions. With 30w oil, it would not apply oil to the chain. I used some Husqvarna chain saw oil and it would not dispense oil onto the chain either. Instead, I used 3-in-one oil. This worked perfectly. I also tried some 5w-30 motor oil in an external hand oiler and that worked good also but is somewhat inconvenient. If you keep the oil in the chain oil reservoir to 5w or so, you shouldn't have a problem.
It's important to keep the chain oiled as the chain wears out much more quickly if it's left dry.

I would recommend that you try different weight oils for the chain oiler to determine what best works for you.

This thing ROCKS!

I have a gas chainsaw, but wanted this battery powered one for small jobs. I figured I'd use it for nothing more than trimming bush branches & little saplings, but I have found that it's a full-blown chainsaw and quite capable of taking down a 7" tree with no problem whatsoever. The first time I put it to serious use, I had to take down a fairly large oak tree (7" diameter) and as usual couldn't get my gas saw started. So I grabbed the little B&D & a fresh battery and went to it. It went through the tree like a knife through butter! I was very impressed, and now when I need to cut trees, I grab the B&D before anything else. It's lightweight, easy to maneuver and work with, and will take down anything within the bite of its bar. It just plain rocks!

I think the guys at Black & Decker actually use the tools they make because this saw, like all B&D power tools, is well thought out, well built, and everything on it just makes sense. They have a real winner with this saw.
I highly recommend it.

Great little saw

I picked this up at Lowes as an addition to my collection of Black & Decker 18V tools. Wise choice. I've used it to clean up numerous small to medium (up to 8") limbs around my property and it handles all with ease. I don't even use my gas powered chain saw any more except for the big stuff. Battery life is more than adequate and its small size makes it really easy to handle. Best of all, my wife can use it. It doesn't scare her like the gas saw does!

I reviewed a bunch of items and finally decided on this one and I'm very happy. It works great! My only advice is not to use it when the grass is remotely wet. When the grass is wet the part that you are edging the grass and dirt get caught between the blade and the cover. When it's not wet - watch out this thing is awesome!

I also used this to edge around my garden and my trees so I could put more mulch in. It worked better than expected and I am very happy.

Unless you just have to have a gasoline edger for whatever reasons, save your money and get this Edge Hog instead. It easily cuts the edge around your curbed lawn and with little noise or fuss. The only drawback to an electric appliance is, of course, the electric cord. Get over that small learning curve and you are home free with an edger that works, is not noisy or troublesome, and lets you keep the wallet a little fatter. A true turf and Earth slicer!

OK, so I was a little late buying into the whole "Keeping up with the Jones's" landscaping and lawn look.
Having been one of the last neighbors on the block to edge our sidewalk I finally decided it was time. My wife brought home the Black and Decker LE750 and within 20 minutes I had it out of the box assembled and ready to go.
This thing was slicing through 3-4 inches of THICK dirt and grass (4 years) growth like it was soft butter.
I had to stop every 2 feet just to pick up the huge scraps and discard them. I'm on my 3rd year with this edger
and I have been noting less than rough with it (careful, it will chip your sidewalk/driveway into little pieces). Works like a charm and for ?? I'd say it's well worth what I paid for it. And the "edged look" is a WOW, what a
difference.

Intimidating at First

My first time using the edgehog was a bit scary. I am in a newer community and I discovered that there are many rocks along the edge of the pavement and my yard. The edgehog threw one of these rocks toward my neighbor's house, and almost hit her and could have easily shattered a window were her car in the driveway. Note to new edgers: Watch for rocks - if the blade sparks, you may be hitting a rock. DIG IT UP FIRST. I just went back through after reading reviews here on amazon of other users and felt inspired to try it again. It worked beautifully and felt great. I got some goggles out, and whenever I hit a rock, I used a small garden shovel at that very moment to dig the rocks out from the immediate area in front of me and kept moving. I can't wait to edge it up again, it was enjoyable. Another note - edge shallow the first time, then go deeper later as you never know what's under your lawn edges.

Although I have only used this tool for a few hours, my impression is that I will get a lot of good use out of it. Even at the end of an 150' extension cord there is plenty of power to handle the toughest jobs I could throw at it. There is no gas to mix, no cranking to mess with - just plug in and go. The adjustments are easy, the guide plate is excellent and I found it very easy to keep the blade away from the sidewalk and driveway.

My daughter also one and she is very pleased with its ease of use and durability.

Never owned a hedge trimmer (or any hedges) before. This thing makes it fun to trim hedges. It's easy to use, does a great job, and you get to see the fruits of your labor immediately -- unlike with some annoying yard chores. I'm sure you could take your finger off pretty easily with this thing, but it's light enough, powerful enough to get through half inch branches (although I'd recommend pruning shears for those to avoid stressing this thing) and the long reach of this blade makes quick work of even large hedges.

It's powerful!

This is the third electric hedge trimmer I have bought in the last 38 years. My first was a smaller Black and Decker that gave good service. When it wore out I got a Ryobi from Home Depot that didn't last nearly as long. But this new Black and Decker is much more powerful. It cuts right through thick branches on the shrubbery. It doesn't jam. I selected it based on the good performance of my son's HedgeHog electric string trimmer. I am very well pleased and highly recommend this hedge trimmer.

It sure beats a pair of hand shears.

I was installing back yard landscaping on a tight budget, and bought the Edgehog for the trenching function. The factory reconditioned model saved me and it was in like-new condition when it arrived. It was very easy to assemble. I used it to cut a trench around my new back yard flower beds to install landscape edging. It did not dig deep enough to completely bury my four inch edging, but with two or three runs over each area it broke up the soil enough to make it fairly easy for my volunteer crew of friends to use a spade and push the edging all the way in. I ran the trencher, and found it very easy to use. The tradeoff of a gasoline motor for a cord is worth it for someone who hates wrestling with pull starts. The Edgehog is designed so the cord does not get in the way. I have some issues with my lower back and even my battery powered string trimmer gets tiring after awhile. The Edgehog rests on the ground and is easy to use. I am going to use it for several other projects, including redoing the edging around my front flower beds, and breaking soil for a French drain. I have friends who want to borrow it. I would definitely buy this product again. It would be worth it at the full price. I would give it five stars if the blade were longer.

Early performance looks good

This product was received in a timely manner and was as described. I have used it once and it performed well. The only negative is the height of the handle. I am six foot two and to reach the handle I have to bend over. It would be nice if it were adjustable for different persons heights, but I bought it as is and shouldn't complain, it does cut well and leaves a nice finished product.

Pretty good gadget

I'm not a fan of gadgets but my husband is. He bought this because we had replaced all our windows and had a lot of caulking to do. This does help speed up the job a bit since you're just pressing a button and can continusouly moving.

We've used it for the window caulk, doors, and for construction adhesive. It works well, batteries last a while but where they are in the handle sometimes I bump the bottom release and they fall out (4 - AA). That's my only complaint.

Ideal for folks with small hands

I find it difficult to use a regular coulk gun because of my small hands. You don't get a nice bead of caulk using two hands. The problem is solved with this tool. I've done the baseboards in two large rooms in a very short period of time. Great tool!!

No more hand cramps!

This thing really works great. Have been remodeling an old house and have been using alot of caulk. If you have alot of caulking to do, as I have, and using alot of liquid nails type adhesive, I would recommend buying rechargeable AA batteries and charger. If you don't have alot of caulking to do at one time, you will be fine with regular AA batteries.

Not great, but pretty good

It works pretty well, but I find it mildly annoying that when you let off on the trigger there is a several second delay of flow when you resume. It would also be nicer if there were a variable speed based on how far you squeeze the trigger so you could slow or speed up the flow without having to stop and change the switch. I'm sure this feature would add to the cost, so based on that factor alone this tool is a good buy and beats the hand squeeze models by a mile.

This Blower/Vac perfomed very well. The new metal mulching blades are a big improvemnt from the old plastic ones. The zipperless bag is easy to empty. There are nylon strips inside the bag where the leaves enter that must be there for a reason I can't figure but they seem to be fraying as leaves pass through and are getting caught in the nylon threads and bunch up. They must be pulled out manually. The variable speed is great around mulched flower beds. You can set it to generate enough suction to pick up the leaves without getting much mulch. It's adjustable to add a little more, or less, suction depending on what you are picking up. Overall, this is a great improvement over the older models.

Met expectations

I sought an effective pine needle vacuum. I bought both this B&D unit AND the Toro equivalent model. They are nearly identical in size, shape, weight, specs, performance, price, and even their red color. Both products powerfully vacuum leaves quite well, but sucking pine needles is only 50 - 70% as effective by either brand. But that's not disappointing, especially in my rocks & stones & pebbles terrain where raking is impractical. Although both use metallic blades, the B&D does a much better job of mulching leaves.

Better than Toro...

I owned an earlier generation Leaf Hog (with plastic impeller) and loved it. By the time it finally broke (motor burned out I think), the leaf collection bag was almost worn through. A real work horse that gave me 4 or 5 years of great service. When it broke I bought a Toro in the same -100 price range. Big mistake. Swapping the Toro from blower to mulcher/vac mode was a nightmare. The fittings were so tight that I couldn't get them on/off easily even after trying to sand the mating surface and lube them with silicon spray. Then, after barely a year of use the motor fried. I just got the new LH5000 and it is great to have the old orange workhorse back!! The variable speed mode does come in handy for when you're finishing blowing leaves into a pile. If you have only one speed (high) it's tough to corral(SP?) the last leaves together. Back off the throttle on this one and it's easy to use just the right blow-power to get the leaves into a smaller pile for pickup. The new zipperless bag design works well but although it should last longer it's not easier to use than the zipper version was. That's a trade-off... no zipper to break, but hey.. that zipper was fast and easy. Overall, no regrets.. the new wiggle-action nozzle is actually surprisingly effective too. Great product. (Oh, this one has an alluminum impeller too... not that the plastic one I used before ever broke but this is a nice update to the product!)

Awesome a great product

This product is awesome, you must read the instructions well and you won't have any problems, you don't want the spout to be a couple inches from the ground, don't try to take too much on. Great, and the accessories are great to hook up to a larger garbage can, and walk around with it, you cover a lot of ground there.
This is easy to use, and a great product.

just got this and can see why so many others love it. it was my first blower/vac so needed to get used to it but once i got the hang of it, very smoothe. i don't agree with the bag ratio, i think it is more like 5:1, but the zipper-less bag is great. put it in a 30lit bag or directly in a 30gal can and drop in from the bottom. only problem is that i lost the attachment in the dark on the first day.... i hope i find it tomorrow morning because from the reviews of the replacement bag (with zipper), that will be a long day.

While I wouldn't want to do an entire yard with this product, it works very well for the use I had in mind. I have a 2 foot wide area circling my house. The front side of the house has plantings and mulch and the back has plantings and rocks. These are the area I wanted to remove the leaves from(I use a lawn tractor for the larger areas). The blower worked well but I found the Vacuum worked better for the planting areas.It sucked up some mulch with the leaves but not too bad. It worked really well in the rock area, leaving the rocks and removing almost every leaf. I had an older unit with a zippered bag and the new Zipperless system is much easier to empty and generally looks like it will last longer than the zipper unit.

For very large areas I'd get a larger gasoline unit, but for this type of job this unit works very well.

Very helpful product!

I have been pretty pleased with the LH5000. I debated on purchasing one of the less expensive versions but I am happy I bought this one as it has two features the others do not. First of all, the variable speed allows me to adjust the strength of the suction which is very helpful in flower beds with mulch and around our rock driveway so to pick up the leaves and not heavier pieces of mulch or rock. That also comes in handy around our oak trees with all of the acorns it has dropped. Second, the zipper-less bag is great. I do have to empty it regularly so it is nice to not have to mess with a zipper. I can empty the bag and have it back on the vacuum in less than a minute.

The only negative is that it is heavier than I expected and my back has ached a little after using it. (However that would probably happen if I was bending over to pick the leaves up as well.) I wish it has a strap for the vacuum itself (only the bag has a strap) that could help distribute the weight over my shoulders a little more.

Overall I think this is a very nice product that has made cleaning up the leaves in my yard much easier. It shreds the leaves into small pieces which helps fill the bags to their limit. I recommend this product to anyone unless you have back issues or cannot carry 15-20 pounds around for very long.

Great product especially for the little it cost

I live in a zero lot-line house with very little yard but I still create grass clippings and have leaves that accumulate. I am not one who thinks it is right to blow lawn clippings and leaves into the street or someone elses yard. It is neither neighborly nor good for storm sewers. That is why I purchased an electric blower that also vacuums.

The reason I purchased the Black & Decker LH5000 is because it has a variable speed motor, vacuums as well as blows, and the bag is zipper-less with an easy to open, empty, and close arrangement. I have used zippered bags in the past with gasoline vacuums when I had a much larger yard and they are a bit of a pain to open a close after a while.

After listening to the harder items it vacuums hit the impeller blade I was glad that the blade is made out of metal instead of plastic. The variable speed knob is easy to operate and allows you to blow your clippings into pile at a lower speed before changing to the vacuum mode at a higher speed - although my cleanup area is small enough that I will probably just use the vacuum.

If you have a larger area to cover maybe an electric would not be appropriate, but for smaller yards this product is perfect.

I bought this about a year ago, and no problems. I used to inflate the tire RV. Limiters, which is a useful tool. IT and install the pump stops when the set pressure. I have it in the original box. He is so small, I keep it under a bed in the back of the RV. I bought a 6-foot extension alone pumps - I have not used for 12 V is connected to a power outlet. I have no problems. It works fine.

Great for occasional use, but...

I bought this item 6 months back and used it once a month to fill up my tires. In the two weeks, I've been using it more frequently - twice a week, after I discovered a slow leak in one of my tires.

The plastic connector from the air hose (that connects to the tire stem) is now broken. This plastic connector is easy to find online, but it is a hassle to order and pay for the part+shipping (~). The product is under warranty and I might call B&D about the issue.

Other than this, I've had a good experience with this inflator - not too noisy, accurate pressure gauge, fills up fast (~8psi in under 3 min.) and great for emergencies.

Update: I ordered the broken part (called "air hose end") myself from ereplacementparts. Infact I ordered 5 hose ends (each is less than a dollar) since this seems to be the weakest link in the product. This is a cheaper and faster option than going through the warranty that B&D offers (where you have to ship the product to a service center, and pay for shipping yourself).

Cord & hose too short.

I have an older model that has worked well for years. This model gives you a very short power cord (2 feet) and the air hose hose could be longer as well. Noisy, but not quite as noisy as the older model. Both models have gauges that read 4 PSI below actual PSI.

Verrrry Impressed

I had my doubts, but this is a gem of an inflator. Used it to top off the tires on my Class A Motorhome, and it did the job quickly and with ease. I did set it about 3 pounds higher than I wanted, then verified with a separate tire gauge to reach the exact pressure. Works much better than my compact air-compressor. There really is a difference between a compressor and an inflator. This inflator is great.

Air Station Gets it done

I got this to replace an old pump that only plugged into the car. That was inconvenient when using it it do bikes or garden equipment. I love that this unit can be plugged into any outlet, you will need an extension cord as the at attached cord is very short. It works as advertised. Just set the inflation level hit the switch and it turns off when it's done.

One thing worth mentioning: DO NOT force the nozzle too far down onto your valve stem, otherwise, it will be a bit hard to remove.,. When you attach the pump nozzle to the valve stem on your tire, you should still hear the air ESCAPING until you PRESS THE LEVER DOWN on the air nozzle to SEAL the connection.

So again,, DON'T push the nozzle too far down on your valve stem and there'll be NO problem removing the air nozzle from your valve stem when you're finished inflating your tire.

I used the unit once and it works as specified, but I only give it 4 stars because the valve adaptor is hard to remove. Because some pressure will be lost when I remove the valve adaptor, I have to set the pressure a little higher than what I want. I found that the tire pressure drops 1-2 psi by simply attach and remove the valve adaptor. If it is possible, I would like to get an adaptor similar to the one used in gas station so that the pressure loss is minimized when the adaptor is disconnected.

Worked great so far!

I purchased this product yesterday, and have only inflated three tires with it so far, so I will update this review if anything changes...but so far I love this Black&Decker AS1300 Air Station inflator. It is easy to use straight out of the box, and it inflated the tires to 45psi in about 3 minutes. I used it on a couple of trailer tires and a spare, and the unit turned off automatically at the preset psi, which I found to be accurate. I suggest setting the machine slightly higher than the desired psi for the tire, then you can use a precision tire gauge to bleed air out to the desired pressure.
I know other reviewers have found this unit to be delicate, and short-lived, but so far it has paid for itself (I paid .98). Without it, I would have had to remove both of the tires from the trailer and driven to a gas station to have them inflated. With this unit, I easily filled the tires in the driveway. Now I can drive to the tire dealer. No hassle, no problem!

cutting 5 foot grass

2d season I have used the 36v.cordless. I bought a second battery in a way which would require 5 additional lines{let it be said the price for the stand-alone battery exceeded the price of the unit). Anyway, my property of about 5.5 acres, includes about 1.5 acres planted with perennial rye and with the good California rains we have had his year, the grass is so high it hides the local deer herd ( 5feet in many places.) The cordless cut well but because of the heavy load, the battery would last for about 20 minutes. Hence the need for a second. Also the charger provides for two batteries. So after about 6 sessions the job is done and the cut is nice and close.

great trimmer awkward handle

This is a great trimmer and exactly what i was looking for. plenty of power and only runs out of juice after i sometimes have to cut a 40 foot long ditch that get rather over grown. my only complaint about this trimmer is the ergonomics are a bit off. the trigger should be in the center with the battery hanging off the back to counter balance the weight of the trimmer head- This is how most gas trimmers are for a reason. With the battery positioned between your hands while trimming it can lead to some awkward positions which can wear you out far more easily than a conventional trimmer. All in all though this is exactly what I was looking for. near gas trimmer power without the noise and without the pollution. I wish it came with a second battery but for 160$ i don't expect it.

I'm impressed - with a few reservations...

OK... received trimmer packaged right and in good condition. With all the good reviews, I was expecting a quality, quiet, easy to use trimmer. On first use, within a minute, both cords broke off at the base in medium high grass against a wire fence (my bad). I opened the spool cap and tried to re-thread the strings thru the openings but I had to pull the spool out and at that point the cords unravelled completely into a knotted mess. WTF?! After trying for several minutes to re-wind the cords back into the spool - following the simple instructions - I gave up and planned on packing it up and sending it back in the morning - completely disappointed. HOWEVER, the next morning, I managed to re-wind the cords (not an easy job and nearly impossible by way of the simplistic instructions - as you're dealing with 2 cords at once), put it all back together and started trimming to give it one more try. Now the good part: IT WORKS GREAT! With a little patience and practice - especially with dealing with the cord, I trimmed down 3 foot tall weeds and grass, trimmed around our raised garden beds, around the pond, house, walkway and finished the job just as the battery gave out. It took 15 minutes of fairly hard work on rough, thick weeds and grass.
IMPORTANT NOTES: 1) Don't buy this trimmer without purchasing the second (expensive!) battery... you'll need it, and the charger was built for two batteries anyway... for obvious reasons. 2) This trimmer is indeed heavy! I was ready for a break by the time the battery discharged. You'll find you need to use the shoulder strap. 3) Dealing with the cord spool is a bit of a challenge. When working properly, the cords do extend themselves and are 'trimmed' by an edge on the guard, however, the cords broke off at the base 2 times in the 15 minutes I used the device. Snapping off the spool cover and re-threading the cord takes some practice. IN CLOSING: Yes, it works great! I'm keeping it! Highly recommend for 'smaller' yards and gardens (one acre). DO consider the 2nd battery as part of the expense. -s

FANTASTIC!!

This unit is extremely well built and every bit as good as most gas powered trimmers. My brother has the version and this unit has much better quality, twice the battery power (36v vs 18v) and larger diameter cutting string. I've been using this for a while now without any problems whatsoever. I did my yard and then loaned it to my curious neighbor who did his yard all on one charge without the battery showing any indication of runnning down. I'm now curious as to how many times I can do my yard on one charge. I kept my gas powered trimmer in case this unit wouldn't measure up but now I'm putting the gas powered trimmer up for sale. I really like the convenience of being able to pick the unit up and use it immediately and not have to mess with a gas/oil mix. For really large yards you might want to pick up an additional battery (just in case) since the unit comes with a dual battery charger in the box.
I'm very pleased with this purchase and I'm now looking seriously at B&D's 36v mower.

Hey, GALS, thank goodness for the somewhat short battery run time!

I am a woman living on a lot in the Colorado mountains with one steep grade planted in tough native grasses. I love getting outside doing my own chores, and am switching over to all corded or battery operated equipment. This one has power, WOW. I asked the landscaper who helps me with jobs too heavy for me (rock walls, posts around the garden, aerating) to show me the best form for using this. I assembled and used this trimmer for the first time yesterday, and from my awkwardness could tell I wasn't holding and using it correctly. He was VERY impressed with it, and quickly cut some huge swaths of grass.

Why thank goodness? Because if the battery lasted longer, I'd have kept going until the job was done and I was wasted. Running it while working to keep my footing on the steep slope was a terrific workout, quite enough for one day. I'd be a wreck today if I'd kept going, as it just so much FUN trimming the mess out there down to perfection!

I agree with all the good things written about this trimmer in the other reviews, so won't be repetetive. Just I LOVE this trimmer.

Perfect Weedeater!!

This is our second season with the B&D 36 volt NST2036 rechargable trimmer. It is a fantastic yard tool We have a 1/2 acre yard to maintain and this is the perfect trimmer for it. The 36 volts makes it as powerful as the gas trimmers we got sick of messing with. We love not having to mix gas and oil and trying to start tempermental gas trimmers. Our yard was too big to drag around a long extension cord and the 18 volt rechargable ones we read about were just not heavy duty enough for what we needed. My only surprise is that this item has such limietd availability in stores. I guess it has been a trial of sorts for B&D. I only see 18 volt ones on their website now which is a shame.

I bought this item a couple weeks ago and it is wonderful. The fact it has the larger battery(more power) and is a dual line trimmer, makes it work better than the rest. I borrowed my brother's single line, 18 volt, B&D trimmer and it did not last for my full 1/2 acre yard. I think the main reason is because of the single line. The grass was long and it seemed to push a lot of the grass aside so I had to go over some spots again and again. With the 36 volt, in long grass, I was able to move right along and get a cleaner and quicker cut. I was also able to turn the machine on its side and I was also able to edge my driveway and sidewalk before the battery ran out. My suggestion to anyone buying a trimmer would be to look for more power and a dual line trimmer and as far as I am concenred this is the best one selling.

Powerful but short battery life

This thing has plenty of power. My three complaints are (1) its kinda heavy (2) the extension needs to be about 9" longer (3) battery takes 12 hours to charge and only lasts about 15-20 minutes at about half speed. If you can get over these three things, its great.

better than expected!!!

I bought this trimmer because I was tired of buying, mixing, and spilling gas and oil. I wasn't sure about what to expect with the rechargeable battery, but it has performed much better than I anticipated it to. Despite being a little heavy, it holds a charge longer than I need to trim and edge my front and back yards, and the shoulder strap helps distribute the excess weight. Granted I have a smaller yard with a pool, but it has not come close to running out before I get everything finished that I need to with it. I would highly recommend this trimmer as a more eco-friendly option, as the 36-volt battery matches the power output of my old gas trimmer. It runs a lot quieter, too.

Very Pleasantly Surprized

I got the 36 volt trimmer on Tuesday and this is Thursday and my first impressions after using it. It does have a lot of plastic but appears to be well made. It is heavy but balances well with shoulder strap. It took 14 hours to charge the battery from dead to full charge. Wednesday morning before work I decided to try it out and WOW I was surprised. It really as powerful as some gas powered trimmers (my Ryobi will now sit). The unit is not as loud as a gas trimmer but it is not silent either. I trimmed tonight late and would not hase done so with my gas trimme because of the noise.
What about the battery life. I ordered a second battery that has not arrived yet but I started cutting with one battery. On my inital charge I have trimmed 350 ft of sidewalk, drive way and street curb. I have trimmed 250 ft around the house, and 80 square ft of flower bed. I have also trimmed some 260 ft or fence and around the base of 2 tree all on the initial charge. That is approximately 850 lf of trim, and 80 sqare foot of clearing and the battrey is still strong. BTW the grass is quite thick so I am really pleased with the battery life.
If the product holds up I would recommend it highly

Now that I have used the product for a month I can say I am truley pleased. It is as powerful asmost gas trimmers. Some notes of caution when using. The trim guard is good for protecting stickes from the string but is open and can sling things towards yuor face.( as all trimmers). Do not make the mistake of thingking that since this is battery powered that it is not powerful. I wear FULL googles as I have had a twig or two sting me in the face. This past week I charged the batteries on Friday to do my yard work on Saturday. Did not the front till Monday. I took the battery out an let it set. Today I just about finished the back yard which is 8 days after I charged the battery. I had the second battery so I finished with no problem. If I had done everything last Saturday it likely would have lasted all the way like it has before.
It is a bit heavy but I am large so it is not a huge problem. If you are a 125 lb woman it would be harder but it can be balanced with the sling.
Some people have complaned about the string feeder and the difficultly of stringing it. Once you get the knack it really is quite easy. If I get a chance I will put up a video review of this.
This really is a great product and I recommend it. BTW I use it as a side walk and driveway trimmer even though it has does not rotate.

Yeah it is what it is...

After reading most of the 62 reviews, I pretty much knew what to expect and I ordered the extra battery. Unfortunately it was shipped separately and I haven't got it yet. So I went out to do the yard with one battery. You know what's coming next.

My yard is only a heartbeat over 1/4 acre so it's not huge, and I've got two gas powered trimmers in the shed, but I'm sick of the 2 cycle engines with the gas oil mixture so it's been years since I've trimmed. I know that was asking a bit much of the black and decker, but I was only able to do the front, side and half of the back before the battery gave out. Next time I probably could make it through the yard on one cut, if I only have a week's worth of growth.

Now if I would have had my second battery I would have finished up this time with no problem, so overall I'm satisfied that I got what I paid for. I suspect that B&D has stuck with the ni-cads because they are a known quantity and a Li-Ion version would be double the price and perhaps no one would buy it. I suppose...

Still there is no perfect solution, extension cords are a pain if you have any size lot, 2 cycles are noisy and hard to start, 4 cycles are big and heavy, 18V is a joke, so for now this B&D with 2 batteries is the best compromise.

On the plus side this thing has power to spare. The trigger gives you the illusion of variable speed, but it really only has 2 speeds, wide-open and something that is about half speed. I found it nearly impossible to get anything in between, unless you continually bump the throttle. I barely ever opened it wide up as I know that will suck the battery dry in no time.

I did have one tangle in the cord and had to re-spool it, but all trimmers have that issue. There has been no progress across the industry in 20 years to solve that problem, except for the ones that just gave up and have you insert little cut pieces of cord into the head.

Overall a decent product for the money. If the price with a spare battery is not too painful and your yard is not too big and you stay on top of it then you can get away from gas and go with this. Just beware of what you are buying.

This Black and Decker cordless weed eater is balanced very well and uses a hefty string that does last and is easy to rewind on the spool. The battery takes the full 12 hours to recharge as listed in the instructions. The only drawback that I can see on this piece of equipment is that the charge only lasts for 25 minutes of weed eating. That 25 minutes is either in full speed mode or when throttling at a lower speed. The long charge time makes it so a person must have the mindset to do the 25 minutes of weed whacking and then find something else to do until the battery is recharged. This machine will cut anything that a gasoline engine driven weed eater will cut. I was very impressed with that and the fact that just a little bump will give you more string. I would buy this machine again but would buy 2 batteries to get more done in one day. (The charger will charge two batteries at one time.)

I have just used the Black & Decker NST2036 Heavy-Duty 36-Volt Cordless Electric String Trimmer. I charge up the battery upon receiving the order. I was leaving on vacation for labor day weekend to Maine. It sat in my basement for 2 weeks before I was able to use it. I have approximately 3/4 of an acre to trim, it did half of the land with plenty of power left for the rest. I love it as I don't have to string extension cords for the other trimmer which I just got rid of in a yard sale. You can't find one better.
