Power tools make it possible to do many tasks quickly and efficiently. As the name suggests, they use power or electricity to function and thus aren’t manual. It reduces the time taken for a task which is most of the times subject to manual intervention and errors. Power Tools are designed to work for you and make your job easier. When used properly, they help minimize errors and maximize safety. Some of the common Power tools used are Circular Saw, Grinding Wheel, Polisher, Circular Saw Blade, Hammer Drill and many more

.

As they use electricity and have fast-moving parts, exercising caution while using them is essential. To keep safe with power tools, you have to be aware of two major factors: the action of the tools and what powers them. Here are some tips that help you use Power Tools efficiently and effectively.

· Always follow the manufacturers’ instructions when using power tool. Yes, we ask you to read them.

· Keep all tools well maintained, always making sure that they are disconnected before working on them. Blades should be kept sharp.

· Choose the right tool for the job. Examine each tool including power cords and pneumatic hoses. Do not use if it is damaged. Be sure to tag it “Don’t Use,” as a reminder to yourself and others.

· Test first before applying. Every time you power up a tool like a drill, saw or nut wrench you’ll generate torque. Make sure that you are well balanced with a good grip before using it as intended. When you are done with a tool, disconnect it, never carrying it by the cord or hose.

· Protect you eyes, lungs and extremities. Always wear personal protective gear like head mask or goggles.

· Electric tools present unique hazards, the single biggest one being that electricity always wants to make a path to ground. It could be you. Power tools should always have a grounded three-wire cord. Never plug a three-prong cord into a two-prong receptacle.

· Short Circuits are common when you use anything that works on electricity. Wear gloves and boots for an additional layer of insulation. Don’t use electrical power tools on wet shrubs or grass. When done with your tools, store them in a clean dry place.

With these precautions, you are pretty safe to use Power Tools. Remember, precaution is better than cure!

About the Author:

Every time you turn on any of your power tools you run the risk of catastrophic harm to your body. This sobering fact is always close to mind in the best woodworkers and other power tool using trades people, and it’s part of what keeps them safe. Furthermore, the safest people in the power tool using community know and follow the seven rules of power tool safety outlined for you below.

This article is not intended to replace the importance of reading the safety instructions in the manual that comes with every power tool… Be careful and be safe.

1) You Are The Most Dangerous Power Tool

Power tool users debate at great length about which is actually the most dangerous power tool. There’s widespread agreement however that the number one most dangerous power tool is the operator himself, as there are very few cases of any power tools leaping out to attack randomly. Remember that every time you turn on a power tool it’s you who are responsible for having the same number of fingers when you turn it off. This may seem like an obvious statement but it’s the arrogant, cocky and negligent power tool users who end up forgetting this cardinal truth.

2) All Tools are Equally Dangerous, but Some are More Frequently Harmful

Every tool in your tool box can be dangerous to you if you forget the cardinal rule, but some are definitely more frequent causes of trips to the emergency room. You should exercise caution especially when you pick up that box cutter of yours to break down some boxes. Also, the table saw is widely considered one of the most frequent manglers of fingers, as is the radial arm saw, the shaper and the chain saw.

3) Keep Your Tools Sharp, True, Clean and Running Smooth

Tool maintenance is another key factor in power tool safety. You should study the manual that comes with all of your power tools to learn how and how often you should be sharpening, aligning and cleaning your tool. And always be on the look out for changes in its operating function – listen for funny noises or any jiggles that may develop. These are signs that you need to spend some time getting your manual out and make some adjustments. A calendar in your shop that you can mark with tool maintenance times is a good idea too.

4) Keep Your Work Space Tidy, Well Lit and Distraction Free

Whether you’re working in your basement shop or a job site it’s vital that you keep it clean, well lit and free from distractions. The cleanliness and tidiness means that you won’t be tripping over any bits and pieces that you’ve left around. Get into the habit of cleaning up after yourself as you work and you’ll be well along your way to preventing any major problems with work-site accidents. Strong lighting too is vital to any power tool operation as the lighting is what keeps your fingers away from the blade and shows you exactly where blades are at all times. Get as many watts as possible on your next job and you’ll keep yourself out of the emergency room. Finally, make sure that there’s no music on that could distract you, or cell phones or anything else that pulls your attention away from where it needs to be.

5) Purchase or Make the Appropriate Safety Accessories

Woodworkers have their push sticks, feather boards and push blocks to make sure that they keep their cuts as true as possible while keeping their fingers away from the blade. Many power tools have common safety accessories and it’s up to you to make sure that you’ve learned as much as you can about each one and that you use it effectively to protect yourself from catastrophic injury.

6) Keep a First Aid Kit Handy

In addition to the normal stuff like bandages and peroxide you’re going to want to keep a couple of extra items handy that have a grizzly importance. Keep a plastic garbage bag handy for transporting any severed limbs with you to the hospital. Further, a hand mirror is vital for checking on your face in the case of a ****** injury. Have these items available and hope that you never have to use them.

7) Always Trust Your Instincts

Most power tool operators report a little twinge of conscience right before they get hurt on a power tool. A little voice or feeling that says “hm… this isn’t safe.” If you get that feeling then stop what ever you’re doing right away. Further, it’s often when people try old jobs in new ways – that they just make up on the spot without thinking through – that they get hurt too. So pay attention to that little voice inside of you and you’ll be much more likely to stay safe!

Remember – it’s up to you to keep yourself safe when using power tools. Always read the manuals and remember the seven rules of power tool safety!

About the Author:

Ever heard the saying ‘women want babies, men want power tools!’ – it’s true. Most men would trade their remote controls just to have the coolest and most technologically advanced power tools there are in the market. in fact, I know of one man who would instantly trade his car in just to have the Bosch 1″ SDS-plus BullDog Xtreme Rotary Hammer. BullDog Xtreme seems to have stolen the limelight from many other equally cool power tools from other power tool manufacturers. Even brands under the same power tool manufacturer dimmed in light of the launching of BullDog Xtreme.

Not to mention, some men happen to think that the Dewalt DW723 Miter Saw and the power tool stand are the best creation of man ever since beer was invented! A power tool like the Dewalt DW723 needs a sturdy stand that is versatile, stable and complete.

If you’re looking for a power tool like a drill that will fit into little nooks and crannies, let us tell you that the Panasonic 15.6 Volt drill/driver has been receiving rave reviews from the consumers. The batteries for this power tool can last a remarkably long time. The motor for this power tool is so versatile that it packs up to 390 inch-pounds of torque. It’s hard to find another power tool to match that, frankly speaking.

Speaking of drilling, for power tools addicts, you’ve just got to get the Paslode 900420X IM350-CT Impulse Cordless Framing Nailer. The Contractor’s Performance Pack comes with extra batteries, tools for charging the nailer in your car, 2 fuel cells, lube oil, degreaser cleaner and safety goggles too.
Power tools are very expensive and when said and done all the tools can add up to a big expense. So when buying a power tool you want to not only make sure you are getting the most for your dollar, but you also want to make sure you are buying the right power tool. You don’t want to buy a tool that is pure overkill on power or even worst, underpowered. That’s why when you buy a power tool you want to look at the important aspects of the tools and sometimes this can be confusing. One important questions to ask yourself is, “What kind of user am I ?” Once you find this out choosing the right brand is a lot easier. After you decided what kind of user you are you need to look at some important aspects such as corded vs. cordless, amps and horsepower, return policies and more.

Kind of User

A power tool is an extension of your hands, like Edward Scissor Hands. If you have the right tool and a quality tool, you can create or fix just about anything. One important questions you need to ask yourself is, “What kind of user am I ?” If you are a light homeowner user, you can get away with a less expensive brand such as Black and Decker. A light homeowner user probably will not put a lot of use and abuse on the tools and power is not a big deal. Remember more power usually means more weight in the tool. Black and Decker designs their tools for the light homeowner use. They are quality built and inexpensive.

If you are not a light home owner use, but aren’t a serious user, Craftsman makes an exceptional tool. Craftsman actually has other companies make these tools for them, you can see their manufactures through the source code. Craftsman makes a good quality tool that has a lot of features and good power. Plus they have a great return policy if something happens or you are dissatisfied with the tool.

If you are a serious home user or contractor, go with a good brand name such as Milwaukee, Dewalt, Bosch, Porter Cable or Makita. These manufactures pride themselves on making the best tool. They are constantly putting money into their research and development process to make these tools even better. These professional power tools cost more, but they are made with better technology and materials. They also have a better design that causes less fatigue on the user. Not to mention that these tools are made to last a life time.

Quality Tool

The tools mentioned above are good quality tools. I would suggest staying with one of the manufactures above for a couple different reasons, but the main reason is efficiency. These power tools will last you a lifetime. They are designed by companies who have been in the business for along time and they understand power tools. They understand quality, safety and what makes a good tool. These are more efficient meaning they can actually transfer more power from the input or batter to the output. This means less work for the user and less frustration. If you would like to learn more about the difference between cheap power tools and professional power tools, please see this article.

Corded Vs. Cordless

Corded power tools tend to have a little more power, while the cordless has the versatility. At least this is the case now. Milwaukee just came out with a new battery technology that might change everything. Cordless power tools are becoming more and more common as they are increasing their power, while lowering their overall weight of the tool. I would suggest going with a cordless tool because of versatility. The only reason to go with a corded tool is if you will be using the tool for long periods of time or the tool you are looking for has a substantial more power capability in the corded version.

Return policy

Power tools are expensive and I don’t care how carefully any company watches for defect, they will always get one or two pass them by. You never know what will happen. These companies do a very good job and have very low returns on their products, but as a consumer you always want to be prepared. I would suggest going with a store who has an exceptional return policy, such as Amazon. They have been voted year after year as one of the most return friendly stores around. Amazon is also a good place to go because they have user ratings from real people who have used the tools. Just make sure you know your return policy from what ever store you buy from.

About the Author:

Chances are, most of you have at least one or two power tools around your home. They are great for both small and large projects and make many tasks much easier due to their power and portability. However, a power tool without power is really no tool at all and will be of little use to anyone. Yet many power tool batteries lose their power due to improper care and the somewhat costliness of replacement power tool batteries causes a lot of power tools to lie dormant. That being said, here are some useful tips for keeping your power tool batteries in the best possible condition to ensure that you’re not left scratching your head next time you need to use your power tool.

First off, most power tool batteries are made up of several smaller cells packed inside the battery casing. These cells are predominantly NiCD, meaning that the same rules for all NiCD batteries apply here as well. These batteries have a tendency to develop a memory effect. In order to ensure that your power tool battery doesn’t lose a significant amount of its runtime, it is important to practice smart charging behavior. Power tool batteries should be power cycled (fully discharged and fully charged) at least once every few weeks to guard against the memory effect.

Have you ever stored a car or lawnmower for the winter and tried to start it a few months later only to find that the battery is dead? The same will happen to a power tool battery if not properly maintained. This is probably the number one killer of power tool batteries today, especially for those that only use their tools for odd and end jobs every now and then. If the battery is not taken from storage and charged/discharged occasionally, it will certainly fail to function when you need it. When you do store power tool batteries, make sure to store them in a dry, cool, clean place away from metal and heat. Never store power tool batteries on the charger, as this will overcharge the battery and also diminish its runtime.

Many people use power tools in some pretty rough places, such as construction sites, mechanic shops, and landscaping areas. This means that power tool batteries often become dirty and should be cleaned to keep them working correctly. To ensure that dirt doesn’t interfere with the battery connections and cause the tool not to function normally, clean the battery contacts with some alcohol and cotton swabs.

If you do have a power tool battery that no longer takes a full charge or simply will not function at all, it may be time to consider having the battery rebuilt. The rebuilding process involves opening the battery casing and replacing the smaller individual cells inside with new rechargeable cells. This process often costs much less than the price of a new battery and most batteries can even be improved by using higher capacity cells which allow the battery to last longer in between charges.

About the Author:

I still remember the pain as my friend drilled into my finger as I was helping out by holding the oven door he was trying to fix. But sadly I am just one of thousands who have experienced some sort of accident ranging from mild to quite serious while using power tools.

We all understand the reasons why safety is so important when it comes to operating power tools. The risk of an accident is very possible. Thousands of minor and major accidents are reported each year with power tools.

There are even some reports of death as a result. You can help reduce your chances of being involved in a power tool accident by using each one only for intended uses as outlined by the manufacturer. You should also heed their recommendations for the proper safety equipment to use while you are operating a particular power tool.

The most common power tool accidents involve injuries to the fingers. This can be anything from a minor cut to losing the entire finger. Approximately half off all finger amputations in the United States each year are the result of an injury involving a power tool. The index and the middle finger are the two generally involved in the accident. The most common power tool involved in these cases are the various types of saws. Of these finger injuries, 55% occurred while operating the power tool at home.

According to OSHA, a large portion of power tool injuries occur because the power source is not removed while changing parts on the power tool. It doesn’t matter how much experience you have with the power tool or how quickly you can change the part. Drill bits and saw blades are the most common culprits. It only takes a moment to unplug the power source. If you are using a cordless power tool, you may want to remove the battery before you change anything on it. The inconvenience is worth your safety.

Cords on power tools are another concern. Many power tool accidents have been eliminated by going to cordless power tools. If you operate any type of power tool that has a cord, make sure you have it properly secured. Don’t leave the cord out in the open where you or someone else can trip on it. There is the risk of electrocution so make sure the cords aren’t frayed. This includes an extension cords you may be using as well. Keep the cords out of wet, damp areas, and make sure there is nothing in the area that can accidentally be spilled on them.

Even if you use the power tool as it should be operated and have on the right safety equipment, accidents can still happen in the blink of an eye. Tripping, slipping, or falling while you have a power tool in your hand can result in an injury. One unfortunately young man was using a staple gun on a ladder with safety equipment on when he lost his footing. He fell from the ladder and ended up with several long nails in his skull. He didn’t die from it but could have.

To help prevent power tool accidents, make sure your work area is secure. Ladders should be securely in place. Never work on a surface that is slippery or unstable. It is a risk you don’t want to be taking with a power tool in your hand. I understand that not all work areas are under the best of circumstances. Be cautious and use common sense.

This information isn’t meant to scare you, only to help you remember that power tools are dangerous, and you have to use them responsibly. Hopefully all of your experiences with power tools with be safe. Do your part to use them under the best possible conditions to help reduce the amount of power tool accidents out there.

As you do your part, so with the manufacturers of power tools. They are very aware of the types of accidents and injuries that take place with power tools. They strive to make improvements on their power tools to help reduce the risk. Most manufacturers welcome your comments, so if you have any ideas on making them safer please contact the manufacturer of that particular power tool.

About the Author:

Hiring a moving company, although it can be expensive, is something that you may want to consider if you lack the time to pack up your house on your own, or have other special considerations.

Moving companies today offer highly customizable packages to meet any need. From bare-bones plans that simply help you pack and/or load up the van, to white-glove services that provide premium packing, delivery, and unpacking of all of your belongings.

If you’ve accepted a new job or a transfer to a new location within your current company, there are many packages designed especially for you. You can have your old house listed on the market, find the best schools for your kids, and even be provided with temporary accommodations while waiting for the perfect house to become available in your new neighborhood.

You’ll need to do your homework before selecting any company, of course. Online business rating sites that provide customer testimonials can be especially valuable, because they offer real feedback from actual customers, rather than the glowing reviews that can often be found on the companies’ own web sites.

You may also want to ask the company themselves for references, and information on when their cheapest and most expensive times are to move. You may find moving midweek to be far more cost effective, as weekends often carry a premium.

These companies will also provide you with a complete overview of their insurance coverage; review it carefully to be sure of what they cover and what you’ll be liable for, should the worst happen.

The company you ultimately settle on will need to come out and inspect your home in order to provide you with a proper estimate. It’s a good idea to solicit quotes from several companies before making your final choice.

Whether you like mobiles or windchimes, they are probably something we all own at some time in our lives. Not only can you use them in your home, they can also be used to great effect outside too! In the garden or in porches etc., particularly when they jingle.

Of course you can make them in a variety of ways and they leave plenty of scope for a bit of improvisation on your part! You will need to save a lid for this from something you use at home. Preferably a plastic one, to have a base to work from, as you will need a circle to hang your items from.

If you have found a suitable lid for this, you now will have to remove the middle of it. So get cutting with a craft knife or scissors. The width of the rim left will need to be at least 1 centimetre and now you will need to make some holes at regular intervals all the way round this.

Choose four main holes which can be used for your hanger. You might like to paint your circle now, either with a silver, gold or coloured acrylic. Of course, this will have to dry before you can then paint the other side.

You need to sort out your hanging strings now (4 in all). So gather what you will, in the form of string or cord. The cord needs to be cut long enough to enable you to go through one of your four designated holes, with enough string left at the bottom to hang your items, but also have enough length at the top to hang it by, when joined with the other three. Enough to knot them all together and make a hanging loop.

Attach a large bell to the end of these four strings. Now cut more strings, to match the length of the others, from the ring only. Tie them on and then aim to put a small jingly bell at the end of all the others.

If you think this is may be too plain, you can always decorate these, by painting the bells in other colours and use gaudy cords. Nail varnish colours would do the trick, or some metallic paint, or any acrylic.

By now you should have got the formula to make up your own ideas on this project, which is good. But just to get you on the right track, I will make a few more suggestions. If you have any old keys lying around the house, you could give these a coat of paint to use, simple idea, but they work.

Shells, if you are anywhere near a beach, are good, as a matter of fact, you can buy these now for crafts with the holes already in. Or, on the other hand, you could use small stones or pebbles on the end of your strings, if you put a spot of the right glue on them.

Personally, I often think that strings made of coloured beads in glass are rather nice. Also, at Christmas, why not use the lovely silver and gold beads as decorations and cut them to the size you want and, if that’s not enough, you can still add items at the bottom.

I love to improve my home, but my project plans are almost always larger than my meager home improvement budget. Like a lot of people, I shop online when it comes to things like buying books or music but I never looked for anything other than entertainment media and electronic gadgets until recently. Whether you’re buying parts to repair your lawnmower or starting that house painting job, there are probably some things you can buy online for less money than you might think. If you really want to save a lot of money on home improvement supplies, you might want to consider buying your supplies online instead of visiting that home improvement on the other side of town.

I now buy all sorts of home improvement materials, tools and even books on the web. I’ve learned that I can buy more home improvement things with less money if I just spend a little time to do so. I have learned some tricks for buying house improvement items over the internet:

Be careful with shipping charges: Home improvement tools are often heavier than the average book you might order from the internet so shipping prices are sometimes pretty high, even if you choose the slower options.

Shop for the best deal: No matter what you’re looking to purchase for your home there are sure to be many different stores that are selling it. Take your time and shop at a few different web sites to make sure you’re getting the best offer you can find. Be sure to check measurements before ordering and make sure the store you order from has a reasonable return policy.

Use home town and internet stores together: I’ll sometimes go to my local home improvement store and find exactly what I need. I’ll note the brand and model and then come home and shop online for that exact item. Sometimes you’ll find that the local store has a better price when all is said and done. Even better, some larger hardware stores may offering a price matching guarantee!

Overall, you just need a little patience and persistence to save a lot of money on all the materials and items you need to complete your own home improvement projects. Buying online may not be great for some things like lumber supplies but it could save you a lot of money and time when it comes to other things like power tools and building plans!

How I wish I could broadcast this instead of writing so that it would be on-the-breaking-minute news. But even so it would still be too early to know what damage the past winter has done; thats part of the excitement of gardening.

Some of the damage shows up now, more will be caused if we have very heavy late freezes and some wont show up until the hot, dry days of late June or July. That makes it difficult to diagnose winter damage.

Have you discovered the usefulness of sawdust? Although we long felt that it was too acid, if not completely injurious to plants, we now know that it is neither. For a mulch it is better to get the coarse sawdust from outdoor sawmills. The very fine sawdust that you get from the local lumber yard makes an excellent thatch roof that sheds water and consequently is-of no value for a mulch.

However, it can be mixed with the soil to replenish soil. Before the leaves come out this spring hunt through the neighboring countryside for sawdust piles even where the sawmill itself has long since moved on. If you dont have a trailer, get it by the sackful. I keep eight to ten gunny sacks so I can replenish soil in preparation for Spring season. And on those trips when I expect to pick up sawdust I take down the back seat and throw an old sheet out to protect it. The wife hates it!

Although it is of course best to get permission to take the sawdust, I have never yet found an old pile that anybody thought worth saving. You can use this sawdust instead of peat for mixing with the soil; you can use it as a mulch, you can mix it with your compost pile to increase the quantity.

I have even used it along with hardwood shavings as a top dressing for paths through my wild garden. If the sawdust is pretty well weathered so that it is dark brown you dont have to worry about any starving effect as the bacteria decompose it. But if its new and light colored, then it will be necessary to put on an extra amount of fertilizer containing nitrogen to feed the bacteria while decomposing the sawdust.

You get this nitrogen back after the material is decomposed and the bacteria have passed on. Yes, today sawdust is socially and horticulturally okay.

by Jason Mikes

One of the most common welders is the MIG welder. These welders work by feeding an electrode wire through a welding gun with a continuous flow of inert gas, called the shield gas.

The most common shield gas used is carbon dioxide. It is the cheapest welding gas and it also makes a good weld. Argon and carbon dioxide are sometimes mixed together to create a weld with less spatter, which gives a cleaner weld.

The GMAW process has a number of advantages over the more common welding processes. The welding gun is equipped with a trigger which is connected to the electrode. This allows you to position the electrode properly first, before you pull the trigger, creating the welding arc.

On a MIG welder, you can adjust the voltage, amperes and speed of which the electrode is being fed into the gun. The tension on the welding wire is also adjustable and it also has a valve which controls the flow of gas.

It is even possible to use a MIG welder without shield gas. This is called flux cored arc welding (FCAW), as it requires a flux cored welding wire. This wire is hollow in the middle, and filled with flux. Most welding guns have an option of switching the polarity of the welding arc, which is used with flux core wires.

MIG welders can weld aluminum, tin, copper, zinc, brass and steel. There are dozens of welding wires to choose from, for every situation. MIG welders are the ideal choice for beginners, as it can weld a wide variety of metals and is versatile and easy to learn.

by J. Boggs

Wind energy is readily available but wind power is not. Unfortunately, the wind power system has not reached the status of becoming a regular power system. However, the good news is that the concept is picking up.

Why is wind power important? Wind power makes sense in these times when the demand far exceeds the supply. The convention ways of producing electricity make use of the non-renewable fuels, not only making such resources scarce but also affecting the environment negatively. The power generated by wind proves beneficial in the following ways:

Free source of energy ” The wind power makes use of wind energy which is absolutely free, thus saving the non-renewable sources of energy for longer.

No environmental hazards ” The generation of wind power is extremely environment-friendly. It does not emit harmful gases nor does it have any other environment-damaging impact.

Cost-effective ” Using a free energy makes wind turbines extremely cost-effective. Moreover, there remains no worry of sky-rocketing electricity bills.

24/7 uninterrupted supply ” The wind power ensures that you never have power outages in your house and farm.

Self-dependent source ” Making use of wind power makes you independent. You no longer depend on the government and its agencies for power.

How can we make power from the wind? A wind turbine is employed to make use of the abundant wind energy. A wind turbine converts wind energy into mechanical energy for mechanical work. Such a wind turbine is generally referred to as a windmill. A wind generator is a wind turbine that further converts the mechanical energy into electrical energy.

A wind turbine typically consists of blades, a tower, a shaft, a base, and a generator. The blades of the wind turbine rotate in the wind to generate mechanical energy. The two pre-requisites for installing a wind turbine are a large area of at least one acre and an average wind speed of 11 miles per hour.

What are the uses of wind power? The uses of wind power are many. Lets look at some of the popular ones: Running all possible electrical and electronic appliances Pumping out water Grinding grains and stones

By employing a wind turbine at your home or farm, you definitely make the world a better place. The wind power is a green solution to the power crisis. It does not harm the environment in any way. Moreover, it does not make use of any fuel, thus promising a future of no power-crisis.

A crafters first investment in a crafting business is her tools. This article is about the definition of the basic tools that can be found in a crafters toolkit. Please take note that there are many available tools out there and it just keeps on adding up as more tools are being introduced as I write now. Nevertheless, let us start with discussing the basics.

A pair of scissors is also an important tool in crafting. It cuts and trims on paper, card stocks and on your crafts. Some scissors are very advanced and can leave design impressions on your crafters. Scissors are one of the basic tools in crafting and a crafter should never be without it. A puncher is also an example of a craft tool that had evolved through the years. We can see punchers having different shapes for holes. Different shapes can now be achieved through the use of innovative punchers.

Invest in an organizer and you will never have to worry about missing pieces again. Look for an organizer which has numerous divisions so you can sort and arrange tools/ embellishments and supplies properly. Try to buy an organizer with numerous divisions and pockets that will allow you to have a specific place for your embellishments and supplies. Transparent and multi-layered organizers let you see whats inside each compartments without having to open them.

An adhesive is also one of the basic tools in crafts making. There are many varieties of adhesives available in the market nowadays. A tack adhesive is used when you want your craft to have a multi layered look. It will effectively provide depth with your artwork. Adhesives are quite expensive and you should always look for great products so your crafts could last.

Papers are probably the most basic tool in crafts making. Nowadays there are a lot of varieties of paper available in the market. Papers vary from weight, color, thickness, size, and texture. There are also scented paper for specialized crafting requirements.

If you’re going away to private school, you will have to choose between being in a dorm or having an apartment. Some colleges make this verdict for their freshmen students and each one lives in a dorm. If your college allows students to live off school grounds, apartments can be a much decision than living in a dorm.

An residence has more space than a dorm room. Many dorms have collective bathrooms, mutual entertaining or TV watching areas and narrow mutual kitchen and laundry facilities. If you are in an public housing, you don’t have the challenges that public active can present. You can rain by manually. You can get into the kitchen at any time and cook what you want to eat, when you want to eat it. That alone can be much healthier than relying on dorm breathing.

An apartment has more freedom than a dorm room. You can come and go as you give pleasure to. There is no embargo, no signing in and out of the dorm. No one looking over your bear, no theme how diplomatic they might be. You also have, inside restrictions, more decorating restrictions than a dorm room. And, of run, you can arrange your gear any way you’d like. Also, having an apartment house gives you more rough in alternative your roommate or roommates.

An apartment can offer you losts more services than a dorm room. For instance, you can commonly have cable TV, have an assigned parking spot, and have a safe storeroom for a mountain bike or other belogings. You often can get high speed internet lacking in the dorm room setting. Some apartments may have washers and dryers in the unit – no more laundromat. Depending on your apartment, an dwelling may give you admission to an assignment room or a swimming pool.

An apartment can offer you a longer lease than dorm room occupancy. If you decide to go to school year round, or stay in your college town for summer vacation employment, having an apartment solves the problem of where to live. You are not subject to dorms closing down over vacation periods or semester breaks.

An dwelling can offer more security than a dorm room. Many apartment buildings have keyed right of entry that limits admission to those who have apartments in the shop.

An apartment offers you a greater opportunity to be an adult. In order to have an apartment, you must come up with the security deposit, pay the rent, do your own shopping and budgeting, pay the utilities and solve disputes with your neighbors and roommates without the assistance of a Resident Advisor.

To you locate an apartment in your budget plan, that is comparable to the university grounds. If you have the wisdom to live on a plan and pay your billa and have the ability and time to keep in good condition an public housing, then you ought to really judge the reward of apartment house existing over dorm life.

If you are anything like the other billions of people on the planet, you know what it’s like to clean. Even more so is this a fact of life if you are the head of a household. Then, like any frugal fashionista, you not only have to clean, but you have to clean with a budget in mind. During this unfortunately economy crisis that the world’s seems to have found itself in, everyone is looking for ways to save. One way that you can save and still care for your family is by saving on daily items such as cleaning supplies. Here’s how:

1. Give feedback whenever you can. Companies want to know what you think about their products. They constantly request feedback from consumers. So, it is only fitting that you give yours. The incentives for your time and thoughts are usually definitely more than “pennies”. In fact, some companies may give you free items and coupons worth up to $1 off of their products. They present plenty of opportunities for saving. Cost-conscious people can take advantage and it’s completely free to do.

2. Get the most out of everything! Many cleaning products can be used in a more cost efficient way with a little ingenuity. For example, if you buy a sponge, cut it in half, and use one part for one task and the other part for another. It’s like getting two sponges for the price of one. Another way to save and get the most out of your cleaning supplies is to slightly reduce the concentration. Just by diluting the cleanser with a little water, you can get the same clean or shine, yet you will be effectively stretching your money in the process.

3. Always use coupons. Manufacturers put coupons for cleaning products everywhere. You can usually find them either on the product itself, in the Sunday newspaper, in store circulars, online, and in the supermarket aisles. Coupons can range in the actual saving that consumers can expect. They can be anywhere from a 10- or 15- cents discount to offers of free products! The best way to take advantage of the saving, cost cutting, and deals that coupons offer is to use them in stores that offer double or triple the manufacturer’s coupon value, and by using them during “buy one, get one” or clearance sales. By combining these deals, you can expect to pay just a few cents for some products and absolutely nothing for others!

4. Host a cleaning party. So often, people buy products that they either dont like or just havent used. Get a few friends together and have an exchange. A products smell may not suit your buddy, but it could be aromatherapy for you. Sometimes, people will have an abundance of things, for instance, cleaning cloths. A cleaning party is a great place to unload some of those extras and help others to save money along the way!

5. Remember that thrift stores are perfect for thrifty people. At the thrift store, you can expect to find tons of cleaning supplies for practically nothing. Everything from cleaning rags to mops and pails, you can buy for cheap at the thrift store. People usually donate the things that they no longer need, and so by buying it at the thrift store you get what you want for often up to 90% off or more!

From the most frugal fashionista to the regular penny pincher, people can appreciate any opportunity to save during this economy crisis…even when it’s the chance to save on cleaning supplies.

Upper-level decks often have a space underneath that could be so useful for storage or an additional living area if it weren’t for the water dripping through the deck above. But without a lot of expense or effort it is possible to create a dry area underneath your deck. Let’s consider the options.

You’ve probably heard of under deck ceiling systems. These systems are available from various manufacturers and they generally involve fixing sheets or panels to the underside of the deck. All these systems all offer a variation on the same theme. Let’s look at some of the options.

From a DIY point of view, probably the simplest system for an under deck ceiling would be the solid vinyl systems such as those offered by Underdeck and DrySnap. These systems generally consist of interlocking solid panels or curved vinyl sheets with an associated system of guttering

Other systems use a rubber membrane shaped in the form of a trough such as DekDrain. RainEscape offer a similar system using flexible vinyl sheeting. Again these are claimed to be quite easy to install by an average handyperson.

With most of the above systems, the underside of your deck will have the appearance of a series of troughs fitted between the deck bearers, and some guttering system to carry water away to the side of your deck. If you would rather have flat underside like conventional ceiling, then you would need to investigate other systems such as Decks Under Cover and Undercover Systems Inc. These companies offer aluminum and galvanized steel products respectively. The downside is that they tend to be more expensive as they generally need to be installed by their own contractors. The Undercover Systems warrants a special mention since it is possibly the only system which is not directly attached to the deck joists.

But instead of constructing a ceiling or a series of troughs underneath your deck, your other option is to cover the top of your deck with a waterproof material. The most common method is to install either a vinyl surface or aluminum surface, but the major disadvantage is that if you have a classic hardwood wood deck you may not wish to hide it with vinyl or aluminum.

Yet another alternative, and perhaps the simplest and most cost-effective way of creating a waterproof area underneath an existing deck is to use snap together outdoor tiles. These tiles simply lock in place over an existing hard surface. Although the tiles themselves are not waterproof, the solution is that you firstly lay down and EPDM sheet over the top of your existing deck.

Then all you have to do is snap these modular tiles in place over the EPDM sheet. So there’s no nails, no screws, or adhesives involved and you won’t need to employ any contractors. You’ll probably only need to cut some tiles on the last row where the tiles but against the outside wall.

Another of the advantages of using deck tiles to create a dry deck area under an elevated deck is that if you wish to change the surface from wood to another surface material, a few manufacturers also offer you the choice of tiles in slate, granite, porcelain and composite wood. You may also be able to mix several of these materials. For example you could create a centre piece in slate tiles surrounded by wood tiles. And if you are a tired of the additional maintenance of wood deck, then you have the option of using low maintenance composite wood as well.

With any of the above systems, you can be sure of one thing. You’ll have a great, new, dry space under your deck which you can use for a variety of uses, storage, dining, or simply a leisure/play area.

Gas appliances and flues can sometimes be dangerous to have in a home, but a large number of UK residents do not know this.

Gas appliances and flues can sometimes be dangerous to have in a home, but a large number of UK residents do not know this. A high risk of carbon monoxide poisoning is possible if a gas appliance or flue is improperly installed or not ventilated as required.

Carbon monoxide (CO), a poisonous gas, is difficult to detect because it has no taste, smell, or colour. Effects of breathing in carbon monoxide include drowsiness, stomach and chest pains, and vomiting, and in some instances, CO poisoning is fatal. It is critical to act quickly if you suspect you or a family member has carbon monoxide poisoning because CO leaves the body rapidly, and test results will be inaccurate as soon as four hours after exposure to this poisonous gas.

Researchers at the University of London, under the direction of the HSE (Health and Safety Executive), revealed some startling statistics from a residential carbon monoxide study. One or more gas appliances were found to be defective in nearly 25% of homes in the study, and high risk of carbon monoxide poisoning was present in 8% of these homes. Nearly 50% of the residents in the study did not have adequate information about the health risks of carbon monoxide. Everyone living in a residence is at risk for a variety of ailments, paralysis, and death if basic gas safety rules are not followed. The lack of gas safety education is obvious; more than 60% of carbon monoxide-related deaths are the result of an improper response or the total lack of response to a gas appliance malfunction.

For gas appliance installations, repairs, safety checks, and maintenance, do not allow anyone except a CORGI-registered technician to perform the work. Only CORGI-registered service workers have the expertise and skills to safely and expertly complete a gas appliance job. Do not be tempted to hire any service technician for the recommended annual service checks for your gas appliances. Look for a CORGI-registered technician for this job, and use a qualified chimney sweep to give your flue a thorough cleaning every year.

In order for gas to burn safely, gas appliances and flues need to be in well ventilated areas. There needs to be a constant flow of fresh circulating through the area to ensure proper appliance operation. Do not place objects on top of or next to appliances, and make sure that all vents are kept unobstructed. Most carbon monoxide poisoning incidents in homes are the result of insufficient ventilation.

If you suspect your gas appliance is not operating correctly, turn it off immediately. Open any windows and doors in the area to allow fresh air to come into the room. Turn off the main gas supply line if possible. Signs of gas appliances that are not working properly include soot and stains around the appliances, pilot lights that will not remain lit, and a yellow-orange flame. For any questions, ring the National Grid on the Gas Emergency (0800 111 999) or HSEs Gas Safety Advice Line (0800 300 363).

Installing bamboo flooring is a relatively easy process, requiring only minimal skills. People with the right experience may even be able to install this great natural flooring material on their own.

However, most people will prefer to use the kind of quality installation services that a reliable retailer can provide. Even with flooring installed by professionals, however, you’ll want to know a little bit about the process – here’s some information.

There are a number of different ways to install premium bamboo flooring. Which one works for you will depend on what kind of floor you choose and the site conditions you’ll be installing under.

Bamboo boards can be fixed directly to plywood or battons, glued right to the subfloor, and floated. That means that a bamboo floor can be installed for almost any situation.

Look for a company that provides high installation standards, using professionals who aren’t just experienced in installing floors in general, but have installed bamboo in specific. Some providers of bamboo floors even have their own full time installation teams – that guarantees a good quality, fast installation.

The length of time it’ll take for a given bamboo floor installation varies depending on the size of the room or rooms you’re having re-floored, and the layout. However, bamboo installations are a lot faster than timber – they take about a third of the time.

Some homes take only a day to be entirely re-floored in bamboo. Others may need a week, or even more if the flooring that’s being installed hasn’t come prefinished.

The great thing about bamboo over many other materials is that there are no hazards while it’s being installed. You won’t have to move out, there’s no dust, and the glue used during installation is non-toxic and providers minimum odor.

If you do decide to use bamboo flooring that hasn’t been prefinished, you may find that there is some dust. That’s because the sanding and polishing process is a little more like installing timber.

Unlike timber, however, bamboo flooring can be installed over many different types of existing floor, including hardwood and tile. Be sure your existing floors are well attached to subfloors, however, since they aren’t usually covered by your manufacturer’s installation warranty.

Installing bamboo over underfloor heating systems isn’t a worry, either. Just pay attention to the height of the finished floor.

Customer installation is possible, as long as you know what you’re doing. If you think you have the level of skill required, you can get your flooring supplier to give you a self installation guide – if you run into trouble, you can still consult with their installers in most cases.

Choose only high quality flooring, made from bamboo that has been densely compressed. This flooring is easier to install and much more durable, giving you more years of beautiful floors.

While there are some very inexpensive bamboo floors on the market, it’s better to avoid them in favor of a floor that’s been made to high standards. You’ll be glad you did when your bamboo flooring installation goes without a hitch and your floor lasts longer.

Many people are put off with the idea of modern interior design as they assume that this kind of interior design just incorporates chrome, minimalism and utilitarian white walls. However the truth is that this is simply not true. Any of today’s interior designers will know how to blend the latest innovations with the traditional elements in such a way as to make the home stunning and at the same time inviting. Further, homes that have the elements of a modern interior design tend to have a higher market value and would be more appealing to buyers compared to homes that do not. With today’s current situation in the housing market it is an advantage to have these elements in place especially if you are looking to sell your homes in the near future.

It’s All In The Details

A lot of work is put into modern interior design. It takes a lot of meticulous planning and attention to details to be able to generate a look that is charming and contemporary, with seamless coordination of the details like finishes, color schemes, furniture, flooring, lighting, textiles, doors, artwork, surfaces, rugs accessories. The use of modern interior design requires each and every element in the home to compliment each other. Furthermore, the concept of modern interior design is about maximizing all the space available in the home and this is pretty much the reason that open plan living rooms and kitchens are popular today.

Do It Yourself

There are two ways of approaching a modern interior design project. If your budget is tight and you have an eye for detail along with a flair for home improvement, you could try handling your modern interior design project yourself. In order to do this you must first decide what work needs doing in your home and allocate a budget. You are then in a position to purchase magazines, peruse the internet and watch home improvement shows to get some modern interior design ideas that are in keeping with your personal preferences. Next you will need to plan the project and buy any materials you will need before you can commence.

Do You Want To Hire An Expert

If budget is not an issue for you, then you can consider hiring an interior designer to handle your project, and this is normally the best way. This method ensures that the results of your modern interior design project will be done to perfection. Your first step in this direction will be to go online and look at work that has been done by various interior designers in your area and find something that you feel will be ideal for your needs. You can then proceed with contacting the interior designer through whatever form of communication is available (email or telephone). Work out with your chosen interior designer the details of your project such as the budget and the ideas you have in mind. If give your interior designer all your ideas and specify your working budget they normally will be able to do some amazing things with your budget.

So if you conclude that your wallet isn’t quite ready for the big project, how can you still provide some new spark to your home without breaking the bank? Well, you might be delightfully surprised at the level of attractiveness something as basic as new curtains can bring.

To learn 7 ways to upgrade the appearance of your home with new curtains at a very affordable price, read on.

1. Make Your Own Curtains

Instead of buying new curtains, you can make your own. A flat panel or column style is probably the easiest for the beginner sewer. For a style that’s more complicated, either opt for a pattern or work off a favorite, pre-made curtain set. If you already have a sewing machine and you’re patient enough to wait for great deals on quality fabrics, this can be an easy way to save a lot of money.

2. Hang the Rod Higher

One of the most frequent mistakes home decorators make is hanging their curtains too low, thus cutting off the pane and producing the appearance of room size reduction. Ideally, curtains should be hung about four to six inches above the top of the window. This effect will draw the eye upward and give height to a room.

3. Buy Longer Curtains

It’s an illusion, but by hanging curtains all the way to the floor, you’ll make the window appear larger than it is. Additionally, curtains that puddle about the floor add an instant sense of glamour or luxury. But, beware as they can be a nightmare to keep clean.

For a look that’s more standard, go with a curtain that falls about ½ an inch from the floor.

4. Have Your Windows Cleaned

All the prettiest window coverings in the world won’t do much for a dusty and dirty window. One of the easiest ways to brighten a room and let in more sunlight is to have your windows thoroughly cleaned. You can either do this yourself or hire a pressure washer.

5. Measure Twice

Avoid the after-the-fact frustration of ordering treatments for an incorrectly measured window. To measure a window accurately, measure the inside mount and outside mount as well as the actual window dimensions.

6. Spend on your Hardware

Spend a little extra on your rods’ decorative hardware, as it can make a real difference. Updating your hardware regularly is also an easy way to change a window treatment without completely replacing it.

7. Pick a Treatment for Your Lifestyle

If you have kids, opt for a durable and washable window treatment like slatted blinds. If your house is a little quieter, you can invest in something a little silkier.

You should also think about where you’re installing your curtains. For example, don’t put an absorbent fabric in the kitchen where it’s likely to pick up grease splatters and cooking odors, both of which are very difficult to eliminate.

When you finally are able to set aside the time for that home improvement project you been planning for months – whether the work involves upgrading your kitchen, finishing your basement, redesigning your bathroom, or another room, you are inevitably hit with what could amount to enormous costs.

Ancient Oriental way of life is an inspiration to a lot of people and plain superstition to others. Both East and West practice Feng Shui with a lot of interest these days. The guiding principles influence each aspect of life for those who believe in it. Recently, the New Age society has been influenced by elements such as crystals and wind chimes.

The core of the philosophy is the energy flow or lack of it. How objects are placed in relation to each other dictates this flow and has a negative or positive effect on the environment. Relationships, finance and health are affected by the quality of the energy. Following the rules and recommendations of FengShui, many people arrange the contents of their house. (Some call it Fen Shui or FenShui but its an error)

Different rooms in the house have different needs and cannot be treated in the same way. There should be only one door for the bedroom and the bed must not be placed in between the window and the door as this will result in troubled sleep. The bed should be constructed from wood and inhabitants should sleep at least 45cm above the floor and be facing the door. Mirrors and pictures of wild animals or water should be avoided. The windows should be draped by thick curtains and the walls should be painted in red, blue or green shades.

The stove and sink should not be adjacent in the kitchen as the proximity of fire and water can be conflictual. Stoves should be positioned in the south corner, the room must have a wide entry and microwaves are not recommended. Feng Shui is also applied to dining rooms and living rooms. There must be at least one wall without a window and the walls should be painted in bright colors. Elements that bring luck include mirrors to reflect food on the table, the hanging of family pictures and television sets or hi-fi systems that stand at the west wall.

Typically when you think of wall coat rack, you just think of you only think of hanging coats, hats, and scarves. But coat racks can be a lot more than just a way to be more organized. They can also allow you to display your own, unique decorating tastes.

One of my favorite ways to play with coat racks is to display vintage clothing on them. Wall-mounted coat racks are perfect for displaying vintage hats and bonnets. And floor-mounted coat racks are great for cloaks, gowns, shawls and scarves.

Don’t be stingy when using coat racks as a decorating accent. True, you can pick up a generic wall-mounted coat rack for under $10 and a floor-standing one for under $30. But if your goal is to create an beautiful decoration, don’t expect a cheap one to have the effect you want.

Bent wood, rattan, wrought iron, or brass give you the best eye appeal in a floor-standing coat rack. And look for furniture-quality solid hardwood in wall-mounted coat racks. Don’t settle for poorly made coat hooks on your coat rack when you can easily combine the beauty of brass and porcelain or enjoy the classic beauty of wrought iron.

You can find wall coat racks with rosemaling, or other styles of aesthetic additions. These always add to your accent, as do such features as a plate rack or decorative shelf on top that enables you to exhibit other collectibles. And a mirror, whether etched or plain, on your wall-mounted coat rack is always a smart choice. Not only does it enhance the beauty of your accent, but it provides a much appreciated service to your guests of letting them glance at their reflection after coming in from outdoors.

Custom etched glass mirror coat racks are a natural option by having the mirror etched with your name or with a greeting to all. As for finding vintage hats or clothing for your coat rack, here are some places to try. Most more prominent cities have at least one vintage clothing store available. You can also find vintage clothing in many estate sales. And more and more second-hand stores gather vintage clothing donated to them into a special area. Or you can look for new vintage clothing and hats from merchants who specialize in supplying the participants of living history events with clothing and items from daily life of the eras these participants portray.

I’ve found Renaissance festivals and Civil War Reenactments to be especially useful sources of quality reproduction vintage clothing (and many other handy knickknacks useful for decorating). Both events attract a large number or merchants who specialize in reproduction vintage clothing and other items of those times. And you can find many of these merchants on the Internet, as well. Be aware, though, that while you can usually find a greater variety of items through these merchants in brand new condition, the prices for reproductions can be expensive because of the effort involved in faithfully reproducing construction techniques from a less industrialized era.

In looking for vintage hats to display on a coat rack, you can either go for a single era, or go diverse with vintage hats from a number of eras and styles. And don’t forget the eye appeal of including one hat in your collection that drapes a ribbon down beneath. Or consider dangling a vintage umbrella or cane from one hook to create a cascading effect from the items hung from your coat rack. And the hats you use don’t necessarily need to be formal. Some of the most effective hats I’ve found for decorating have been the well-worn, but extremely unique, vintage hats of everyday laborers.

For a floor-standing coat rack, avoid reproduction or vintage clothing that really needs a hanger for it to look most impressive. Look instead for cascading items such as cloaks, gowns, shawls, and scarves. Experiment with interweaving a colorful scarf or shawl among dark and elegant formal wear.

If you have come to the conclusion that you would like to set up a tropical fish aquarium for the enjoyment of yourself and your family, then you are probably in need of some directions in how to get started. If you have never had an aquarium before, then it is recommended to start out with freshwater aquarium fish because they are easier to care for.

Freshwater aquarium fish, as opposed to their bright and flashy cousins of the saltwater variety, can be a good experience for people who have never cared for fish before. Saltwater aquarium tanks can be quite challenging to set up and properly maintain.

freshwater aquarium fish
For this reason, it is strongly recommended that those new to fish keeping, look first at starting with freshwater fish. After you have been able to master the challenges of keeping freshwater fish alive and their aquarium in good order, at that point you might want to broaden your fish keeping horizons and branch out into the saltwater aquarium realm.

No matter what type of fish tank you choose, it will require diligent care and maintenance. Cleanliness will be the most important factor in maintaining a habitat for freshwater aquarium fish and will assure their health and longevity. You should be prepared and committed to doing weekly cleanings of your aquarium tank.

In addition, you will also need to monitor your tropical fish tank on a daily basis. You need to be sure that the water is always properly in balance for your freshwater aquarium and that the correct and comfortable temperature is constantly maintained. The other daily task that you must remember to perform is to make sure that your fish receive the proper amount and type of food as needed.

fish aquarium fish
After you have determined that you will be able to keep up with the regular required maintenance of freshwater aquarium fish, then you can start deciding on what kind of fish you want to include in your tropical aquarium. The tropical aquarium fish tanks that you choose must be large enough so that it can properly accommodate the number and types of fish that you plan to purchase.

The overcrowding of tropical fish tank can be a deadly mistake because it can cause polluted tank water and can lead to diseased fish. Before making your final decision, make sure you ask how large the selected fish will be at maturity, as size can vary a great deal depending on the species. A newbie to fish keeping might want to start with a 10 to 20-gallon tropical fish tank and fill it with the smaller and heartier freshwater fish varieties.

tropical fish tank
In order to maintain a healthy environment for your freshwater aquarium fish, you will also need to have a quality water filtration system, a reliable heater and some nice aquarium decorations and accessories.

Also, it is important that your freshwater tropical aquarium is in a room where light and heat can be controlled easily. Remember, once your tropical fish tank is set up and filled, it will be very heavy, so be sure that it is on solid footing with flooring that can handle the load.
