Power Tool Battery Reconditioning Can Lengthen Your Batteries Life
Power tools are important for a number of industries and they are mainly used for construction purposes. However, DIYs and handy individuals who do their own home projects such as cutting, grinding, shaping, drilling, polishing or painting around the house may also find them quite useful. If you're fond of doing DIY projects at home, then having a power tool inside your tool box is an extreme essential.
While most stationary tools are powered by electric motors or compressed air, portable and smaller tools usually make use of batteries. Because it relies on batteries to work, your tool is only as good as the life of your battery. Once your battery is dead, your power tool is rendered useless until you end up replacing it. Naturally, since these tools make use of rechargeable NiCad (nickel cadmium) Dewalt batteries, then the lifespan of the battery is substantially longer than the conventional ones. But, these rechargeable batteries also have their own life spans, and will need to be replaced at a certain point in time.
How To Prolong The Life Of Your Power Tool Batteries
While power tool batteries can be recharged and used over and over again, they also have a set lifespan and can only last up to a number of discharges and recharges. However, there are some methods that you can try in order to make the battery's life last longer allowing you to get more for your money.
Power Tool Battery Reconditioning Lengthens The Battery Lifespan
One easy way to increase the lifespan of your Firestorm power tool battery is to recondition it regularly. An easy reconditioning process involves fully discharging the battery and recharging it again. It is pretty simple considering the fact that all you have to do is fully charge the battery. Then, you simply have to turn the tool on and run it until it completely dies out. Then, you should once again charge the battery and repeat the process once again.
Doing this process once a month is guaranteed to increase the lifespan of your battery, and improve its working capacity. Should you notice any problems with your battery in terms of working condition or capacity, then the battery might either be damaged or may have actually reached the end of its lifespan and may already need to be replaced.
Other Methods of Power Tool Battery Reconditioning
This easy process of Hitachi power tool battery reconditioning is just one method of improving your battery's life span. There are other reconditioning methods such as using desulfators or nano-pulsers in order to eliminate crystal sulfation. These other methods of recharging and reconditioning batteries work just as well, however, the method mentioned above is one of the easiest ways to do so and can be done on a monthly basis as a precautionary measure. Don't forget to do this on a monthly basis and increase the lifespan and working capacity of your battery.

Makita drill battery packs contain individual cells wired in series so they produce the correct voltage to operate your power tool. For example, a 9.6V Makita drill battery(Makita battery for 193176-1 ) contains eight 1.2-volt cells. The problem is that not all the cells go dead at the same time, but as the makita drill battery keeps going dead quickly after it's been charged, batteries get disposed of when all they need is fixing.
Charge your makita drill battery pack(MAKITA BML240 battery) until it's fully charged. Remove the makita drill battery pack from the charger and leave it for 8 to 12 hours. This allows bad makita drill battery cells to lose their charge while good makita drill battery cells retain their charge.
Remove the cover from the makita drill battery pack. It usually has six to eight small Phillips screws holding the cover in place so use a suitably sized Phillips screwdriver to remove the screws. Once removed you see the individual cells.
Get a voltmeter. Start at the top of the makita drill battery pack( Makita 193158-3 drill battery) as you need to get a system in place to test each cell. Put the sensor on the end of the red wire that's attached to the voltmeter onto the positive cell terminal. Put the senor on the end of the black wire that's attached to the voltmeter onto the negative cell terminal. The cell terminals are labeled "+" and "-."
Read the voltmeter display. If it reads between 1.1 and 1.2 volts, the cell is good. If it reads below 1.1 volts, replace the cell. Put on mark on the cell using a marker pen so you know which cells need replacing.
Replace the process for each cell in the pack using the voltmeter as before. Mark bad cells.
Remove the cells you marked as bad. Insert a small flat-head screwdriver into the cell compartment and lever the cell out.
Make a note of the type of cell you have removed from the power drill makita drill battery pack as you need to get replacements that are exactly the same. The type of cell is clearly marked down the side and is likely to read "NiCad," meaning nickel cadmium, or "NiMH," meaning nickel metal hydride.
Get replacement cells to replace the cells you've removed from the makita drill battery pack. They are widely available from electrical outlets. It's helpful to take along one of the cells so you can be certain of the getting the same type.
Insert the replacement cells into the cell compartments. Simple push them into place using your fingers.
Replace the power drill makita drill battery cover. Insert the screws into the screw holes on the cover and tighten using a Phillips screwdriver.
Put your fixed makita drill battery pack on charge for about half an hour. This lets all the cells charge equally. Remove from the charger and insert the makita drill battery into your power tool and it's ready for use.

I have had battery drills and impact guns for over twenty years, starting with original ni-cad, then nickel metal hydride and now Lithium. They have been used professionally (all day long) as well as around the house. The 1.5 amp hour just doesn't measure up. More frequent charging and hence shorter battery life. If investing extra money in a quality tool like the Makita, get the stronger battery.
Makita continues to impress me with it's cordless 18V
equipment. I have the drill kit that came with 2 1.5Ah batteries so when I purchased the BTD181 impact driver I felt I needed a third battery for when 2 people are using tools at the same time.
This 3.0Ah battery seems to never need to be recharged. It holds it's charge for a very long time. Working on small projects I still prefer the 1.5Ah battery due to weight but a drill or impact driver with the BL1830 is still very light weight.
I have purchase several of these batteries now and have not had one fail yet. I love the way they hold the charge for extended peroids of time when not in use and in use these Batteries last twice as long as my Sears Craftsman 18 volts ones do maybe three times as long and they are much lighter also.
Makita BL1830 18-Volt LXT Lithium-Ion Batterysale
This thing just keeps going and going
To this day, I'm amazed at just how long this battery lasts on just 1 charge! Even my partner at work has asked me on several occasions whether I have charged it lately, bc he can't believe I can go a few days screwing in fasteners for metal roofing without plugging it in. It is very light and balances out (weight) the Makita impact driver that it powers REALLY well.

This combined package, which I thought was quite expensive, is shown in a very short time, is one of the best deals I've found. I realized that the price has risen by about $ 20 since I bought mine, but still worth the money. Impact drivers and the use of both quality products in many categories. Rugged, comfortable, strong and well developed. Something I had not expected was good, even just to flash. He stood up for himself (for the driver and your use), and the head can be adjusted to different angles for hands-free operation. The lighting is amazing as well. Only ding I can give this series is only 2 batteries, but all three instruments. I suppose that eventually emerged another battery in no time.
I recommend this book to anyone who wants to have a high quality wireless driver / drill. And a large flashlight.

I am a pro contractor and use my tools on a daily basis in a variety of applications. The drill is one of the best cordless models I have used. It would have benefited from a metal chuck but the plastic one is pretty durable. Plenty of torque for driving and more than enough speed for drilling. I can't say enough good things about the impact either. I used my Hilti hammer drill to drill 50 holes through a 2x12 and brick and then sunk 50 tapcons using the Makita Impact, all on one charge.
I'm not Joe contractor, I'm just an ambitious homeowner. My father-in-law bought me a nice Craftsman drill two years ago as a present. I got a lot of general use out of it. It doesn't owe me (or actually my father-in-law) a dime. There were two major problems with it. If the battery gets cold, it dies immediately. Secondly, it lost major power after I used it a bit. It's good for light duty but not for any serious work. That drill cost about 0 and already needs to be replaced after two years.
I had my friend who worked in construction come over one day to help me hang an exterior door. Since this was a no fail mission, I decided that external help was important. He showed up with his Makita drill. The drill is light, powerful, and easy to use. The LED light is super bright. The charger recharges batteries in 15 minutes. It doesn't even matter because the batteries last forever. After using that drill for a few hours, I was sold. You can buy that drill for around 9. For an extra (over Craftsman or others) you can get a drill that you can use for 20 years. I knew that drill would do the trick but I was tempted to get the kit for the extra 0. Hey for flashlight batteries alone, it would eventually pay for itself.
I watch a lot of HG TV and I noticed that no one uses a drill anymore. They all use impact drivers. So I said, hey.. if they use it, it must be good. I am currently building a closet in our basement. Essentially framing out an 8X8 cube. I got frustrated with the Craftsman and decided to bite the bullet and buy the Makita kit and I am not disappointed. I drove one screw with the impact driver and decided then and there it was worth every penny. It puts in a 2.5 inch drywall screw in a completely controlled manner, very very fast. You don't have to push hard at all. The impact motion of the driver pushes the screw heads right in. A project, that would have taken me days was done in a few hours, solely because of the speed and power of the impact driver.
If you're wondering what the difference is. Use the impact driver for driving screws into wood and in any application where insane torque is required. Use the standard drill for delicate work where you want to use the clutch, and for drilling holes when you need the speed. As a bonus the charger even plays Für Elise after completing the charge.
I bought the LCT300W kit for my home wordworking business after my friend put one through a tough year of commercial use with no issues. I am really impressed with the power of the drill, and the ease of driving screws with the impact driver. I really like the balance and how light the units are. The LED lights are also a nice feature that I now wonder how I did without.
The Makita LCT300W 18-volt kit is perfect for use around the house. Contractors and professionals may prefer the longer lasting 3.0Ah sets (twice the battery life), but for most of us we will be well-served by the lighter 1.5Ah batteries that come standard in this kit.
The video shows this set in better detail, but here is a rundown
Impact Driver -
- Perfect for all of the jobs around the house. I used to use STP SD10010 3.6 Volt Lithium-Ion Cordless/Rechargeable Screwdriver with Limited Edition Tin Storage Container but as you would expect from something with a 3.6 Volt battery - it simply did not have enough power. With the Makita Impact Driver I get significantly more power while adding about 2x the weight. This is a trade-off that I can live with. The best way to describe is that this is that the Makita Impact Driver is perfect for both screwing in decking and hanging curtain rods.
Driver Drill-
- The main reason for buying this set. I have an older 9.6V NiCad rechargeable drill that just couldn't get it done. On nearly every job I would need to pull out my corded Milwaukee 0234-6 Magnum 5.5 Amp 1/2-Inch Drill (which is an excellent drill) to finish the job. It works great, but it would require me to get an extension cord.... and all of the other inconveniences of a corded drill. The Makita 18-Volt Driver Drill is an excellent alternative - granted it does not have the power of my Milwaukee corded drill, but it will get nearly every job done whether if it is drilling a pre-hole or cutting a 2" round hole through plywood - it works great.
Flashlight -
It is bright, lightweight, and convenient - in short it is handy but not critical.
Final Verdict - I am somewhat concerned about the complaints of unpredictable battery life - but for now the set is an easy 5-star recommendation.
Likes: 1) Price for the combo. 2) Size and weight of the drill is great, not too heavy. 3) The LED light provides some light without having to hold a flashlight. 4) The torque. I just used the drill to drill 4 1" holes through double headers in my attic to run wiring. Did it fast and without any slowdown. I like that, cause I did not want to be in my hot attic any longer than I had to be. 5) No cord. 6) Quick recharge of the batteries
Dislike: 1) Battery life is way too short. 2) The instructions on how to charge the batteries are not clear. I had to go online and read up on how to properly charge the batteries. I think I have it now - leave the battery on till the last light is a solid green, but don't leave your battery on the charger any longer - it will shorten its life.
Recharges in 15 min or less. Great product. Would recommend to all my friends & associates. Portable light has steady beam first used in recent blackout in our area.
